FreshChoice City Market

The manager was very insolent and condescending to me and my husband because we tasted the pistachio nuts we were purchasing . He told us he would be charging us an additional charge on the purchase for the nuts we tasted instead of letting us know it was not allowed as we are tourist . So after picking up several other items including other nuts we went to the self cashing machine completed our purchase thereafter he added an additional charge for the nuts we tasted of which he said he did not know the amount so he will charge us for 100 Gm and said it was $15 but he will charge us $8:00 doing us a favor , well I did not pay for any of the items I told him to keep all the items we picked up and walked out. I refused to pay the additional charge .nI think it was discrimination because we were Black and he was following us on his camera monitor as stated by him.nThis happened in Christchurch New Zealand . We visited Auckland and Wellington experienced no discrimination there the people were very friendly and asked us if we needed help getting around , welcomed us to their city . This bit of racism was our first experience in New Zealand as we were leaving the next day to Australia after being in NZ for 13 days.

Considering this is an urban grocery store in a downtown shopping center, I was quite pleased with the selection. I had no problem finding sandwiches and chips and all sorts of snacks to bring back to the hotel room and would be my driving snacks. The store is nicely laid out with lots of options.nnSelf-checkout worked well and I had no problem using my American credit card to pay for my stuff.

This review is for the Lil Ruby coffee bar in this supermarket. The coffee isn't bad and at times in the morning they have a $3 / 8Oz coffee which is good value. The staff are friendly and try to meet customers' requirements. They have a few small tables for two people. Happy to try them again. Thank you.

Intercity bus stop im front of fresh choice building. Big building but i never got inside yet maybr next time

Surprised that the fresh-produce section is not larger. Lots of NZ beers in cans, including several low-alcohol options. Many vegan items around the store, including a small “Health foods” section and a Magnum vegan almond ice-cream bar in the cooler before the checkout area. Also, some packets of Wattie’s Plant Proteinz meals.
