Awanui Labs - Te Atatu (formerly Labtests)

I live in Manukau, but chose this lab based on the availability and the reviews as I always read them. I was pleased with my choice to come here!nnMy nurse today was Cha and I was so happy with my experience, I arrived 15 minutes early to my appointment and was looked after right away. Although there was only 2 staff on today, the turnover of waiting room patients was quick and efficient whilst also caring to their needs! I never felt rushed and even had small chat whilst the test was going to ensure that I felt comfortable.nnI was explained everything and talked to with care throughout my whole visit.nnMy total amount of time spent in there was about 50 minutes, as I had my test and also waited longer for asthma requirements, but honestly the time went by so quickly and from the time I had arrived to the time I had left, it was a whole new room of waiting people, meaning their wait time was not long at all!nnGreat work to Cha and her team mate who worked on 10/09/2025, thank you for the pleasant experience :

Went there today for a blood test and it was the slowest wait time ever, the waiting room was not that busy, with maybe 4 people in there total. There was only 1 nurse/phlebotomist working and we waited around 45 minutes to be seen. Once we were seen, we were taken to a room that absolutely stunk of cigarettes. We complained that it smelt of cigarettes and were moved to another room that was not much better. Poor experience all round, would suggest going to a nicer one such as westgate.

What is the point of having a consent form to request your results at the front desk, if you tell people they aren’t allowed to have their results sent to them? This violates patient’s right to access their health information.nnThe staff also treat you like a bother/nuisance. Unfortunately there are no other collection labs nearby.

Chronically understaffed. Causing further issues.nnOne of the nurses left me when I was nauseated upright after unfortunately missing. When I felt better, they were gone for more than 5ish minutes doing another patient. Went to receptionist who was also gone and had been completely ignored. Nurse came back again to bring me back. Thought they had already drawn blood but unfortunately didn't so we had to do it again which was smooth.nnI didn't see a lot of glove changing for sterilization. I don't mind long waits but health and safety are highest priority for me.nnLovely people, but I think you guys are understaffed and it may be impacting work safety.nhappy to change review once I know things are up to speed, as for now I'm going elsewhere
