Excellent location, wonderful staff, and delicious breakfasts and desserts. Make sure to try the home-made yogurt with berries! Dinner is ok. Flavours could be richer. The risotto is a bit too cheesy and oily. The meat pie could be less salty. Three stars because of the value to price ratio. Nice place to stop by.

We thought we would find a nice cafe to sit and enjoy some hot beverages after a few downpours earlier that day. The prices are horrific (5 dollars for a tea, 5.5 dollars for a hot chocolate made with chocolate powder mixed in water). Outright thievery as it's the only cafe around. Worst coffee I've ever tasted too. Staff were not hospitable. Would recommend waiting until the next cafe, no matter how far.

We stayed in the apparent historic hut. To the average person who doesn't work in marketing this is a 14 x 8 shed with a small double bed. The ceiling was covered in spiders webs. The food was tasty but like the beers was expensive (Auckland prices) Not really impressed with any of it. All seems like there cashing in on tourists with with the minium amount of effort or investment.

We came in for lunch, 2 meat eaters and 2 vegetarians. It was nice to have more than one token meat free dish on offer like so many restaurants have. Delicious food and friendly staff. I would definitely come back next time we're in the area.

Going to try to boil this down to the basics. Single diner. Staying in their campground that night. Reservation booked when I checked in. Ordered seafood chowder, which took 35 minutes to arrive, was mostly shrimp & squid and 2 green shelled mussels from the north that had been left out too long (tasted fishy) and was a bizarre yellow color. There is nowhere else to stay or eat anywhere around here, but I should have sent it back and ordered something else. Was never asked by the main host how my meal was. Departed after 8:00 am and the cafe wasn't open,so no morning coffee, Probably just as well. Five weeks in New Zealand and this place takes the crown for the worst experience.
