We were passing through and stayed one night at the Balclutha Motor Camp, it turned out to be a really lovely stop! The atmosphere was very relaxed, and it was no problem at all to stay a bit longer in the morning. I joined the Saturday parkrun in the park next door, while my son had a great time at the playground and visiting the parrots there.nnThe kitchen was well equipped and neatly organised, everything had its place, which made cooking super easy. The facilities dump station, laundry, fresh water, WiFi were all there! It was definitely the best value for money stay of our trip.nnA special mention to the older gentleman at reception, he was very kind and gave us excellent tips for our trip to the Catlins. Thank you for the warm welcome and the pleasant stay!
The Camp was a great value, and the facilities were more than adequate. However, the standout parts of the camp were the gentleman at reception and the owner.nnAs the area received snowfall and our camper did not have a heater, nor did K-Mart in Dunedin, reception let us borrow one for the night, and when I inquired where I could buy a heater locally, the owner sold me the brand new one he had let me borrow the night before, since all are sold for the season, the stores. As a bonus, the owner took the time to provide us with pointers on what to see in the area and suggested roads suitable for a camper van.
3 motorhomes - last minute booking.n6 adult 3 kids.nAmazing host, who tutored me on emptying black water he did it. Wealth of knowledge about motor homing, South Island and the weather.nEasy access, in and out stay. Everything we needed, especially since my van’s heater stopped working. Literally saved my life - having electricity. Gold Coaster in NZ winter.
Whilst we only stayed here for one night during our road trip of the south island, we were immediately greeted by our kind hosts and given the run down of the local amenities and services. The showers were by far the best we have encountered on our trip and the common room was just such a sweet wind down area. Our stay was remarkably well priced and it included wifi which, on road trips like this, is a luxury! 10/10 stay and I would recommend to any international travellers to stop in along their journey for some good ol' fashioned kind and accommodating hospitality.
I cannot fault the hosts as they were very friendly and hospitable. However I can't get over the absolute stench of our cabin. The smell of stale cigarettes was completely overwhelming and it lingered on my belongings once we left. A few people smoking questionable substances too, but I believe these were residents as opposed to guests.nnHowever, the facilities were generally good with a fully equipped kitchen and the showers were powerful - albeit a little run down. I'd return if I were camping as it was good value for money, but I wouldn't want to stay in a room again.
