Love the new renovations and how they have joined the old to the new. Would love to see a lot more interactive activities for the kids, as it is aimed a lot more towards adults. Would also be better if the displays made you walk one way, so you don’t miss things. Melbourne museum is still my favourite, but WA has some amazing things now to see, but still plenty of room to go from great to excellent. :
It’s amazing museum !!! There combines 4 rooms: Origins, Change, Transform, and Wildlife. It’s combination between History and Science. Many beautiful decoration. Even the tiny organisms such as insect, spider, frog. They can be displayed with interesting looks. It’s free entry, some time, you can enjoy the beautiful show at night. The building is so elegant. Toilet is cleaned and good.
Loved it haven't been in over 7 years and it's even better then before. I'm having trouble walking long distances at the moment so to be able to borrow one of there wheelchairs made the whole experience with my husband and 3 young daughters stress free. Since I was in primary school, I've always loved coming here. But I've always loved museums. But I still would recommend checking out the WA Museum even if you don't think you're into museums, as for the most part, it is a good representation of what the state is about. Compared to what I remembered the museum was, the building is now gargantuan. You can make the day of it just to wander around the galleries. The highlights for me are the floating whalebone that gives the museum its surreal look, the origins exhibition and the general view of the city from the museum rooftops. Oh yeah, it is still free entry to the museum, but apparently they'll charge some from October 2022, so better get on the free train before the conductor starts asking for tickets.
It is an experience not to miss. The museum is impressive, spacious, comfortable and educational. I would definitely come back again to see the other displays. They have fixed displays and they have a space for temporary display works by various artists. So this keeps the museum interesting and fun.
Took advantage of free entry areas. It was an extra $20 to see the dinosaurs. A huge area to explore with many interactive exhibitions. The toilets were very clean and there were great breastfeeding chairs overlooking the city, as well as well sized parent/change rooms. From the outside it looks really impressive and you would think there would be tons of exhibits to get lost in. Unfortunately that's not the case. It feels huge and empty and I wish there was more space devoted to pieces. Hands down my favourite area was the mineral specimens and the fossil spaces, but overall the Museum just felt devoid of content or just really lacklustre displays. I hope it gets better over time though as there's tons of room for exhibits and display areas.
The WA Museum is an absolute treat! So much to see no matter what age you are. I took my two grandsons to the Wild Life exhibition on the top floor. They're only 1 and 3 years old but both boys absolutely loved it. Their little faces were full of awe and wonder. Visiting this museum again after so many, many years blew me away. A completely different place to what it was before and it looks fantastic inside and outside. Lots of exhibits and really family/kid friendly. Love that it has such an large focus on the indigenous culture. Gave me the opportunity to understand the indigenous people and their way of life. It is so clean that you won't find a spec of dust....spotless. Also such a great location being in the heart of Perth CBD, close to cafes and built of sacred land. I had wonderful time here and very respectful of the location. Highly recommended to anyone. Lots of kids related things to do.
This is a very interesting museum, both from the perspective of the architecture and the collection. The new building is well integrated with the existing heritage buildings while providing interesting galleries and spaces. Large gift shop and ground level café. Definitely worth a visit.
