I write this with the exception of the Female RN who initially triaged me in emergency. It is staff like you that make a positive difference, Thank you! Unfortunately there are not enough exceptional staff like you and that is obvious at LRH. I am feeling out of depth with anxiety and depression and I am at times feeling increasingly suicidal and very out out of control, this is far beyond "my normal" and its frightening to say the least. I loathe to share this publicly. There's still so much stigma associated with mental illness/disorders and that makes it embarrassing. I presented to the LRH emergency dept on Friday(23/2) and after 4 hours of waiting in a really pityful state I left informing staff first that i felt worse and they let me go, knowing I was having thoughts of suicide, feeling absolutely hopeless. In that mindset i intended to end my life..the train was stopped and i was arrested under mental health act law and forcibly taken back to LRH emergency dept . The help offered some hours later when I was finally seen by someone (obviously I was extremely distressed at this point) was lacklustre and when the community mental health team member came out over the weekend he had no clue as to what follow up the initial assessment had suggested, which was in fact an assessment and mental health and medication review by a Psychiatrist. I had to tell him! On his return to the office I assume he read the notes and called me with an appointment to see a Psychiatrist. I was hoping for a few cbt sessions and some short term medication to sort the really bad patch i am going through at the moment, so i can go back to feeling more stable and continue on with my relatively normal life. On Monday (26/2) I was seen by Dr Lane, a Psychiatrist and she had me judged from the minute i walked in. She was condescending, judgemental and rude. She treated me like a piece of garbage, discounted my feelings and what was best for me and wrongly labelled me. When i left i felt worse and really did act like a crazy person in my behavioural response to their collective lack of care. I have been avoiding calling this service, as I am aware that LRH are often unhelpful, but I was and still am desperate and in a lot of emotional pain, and generally not coping with anything at all. But I I will never throw myself at the mercy of these wolves again! I will now and in future seek help in Melbourne or anywhere other than here. This service made me feel more unstable, through their lack of care and high levels of judgement. Unprofessional is not the word! It really comes down to good experienced staff, ethics, basic human empathy and simply duty of care; and I found none of this within this service (except aforementioned Nurse) I can see that the rumors of at least weekly suicides happening(I personally know of 2 in the last year)whilst people are supposed to be cared for and safe in the hands and supposed care of this service. Especially inpatients and those presenting to the emergency dept. These people are the most vulnerable! Wake up Latrobe Regional Hospital and Latrove Valley mental health service. You are not only feeding the stigmatisation of a vulnerable minority, but the tragedy is that people are actually dying in your care and they should feel and actually be kept safe!

The Specialists here saved my life, and the staff were excellent, so no complaints there, but they could do with a new Chef LOL

I have been there twice in a lot of pain and vomiting badly. the waiting room was full. But every single person in the waiting room looked very comfortable. I was seen within a few minutes. The triage nurse was great he got my vomiting as under control as he could. Pain was still really bad but I went straight through to a bed to see a doctor. Dr took awhile but it was very busy. And understaffed. Nurses where all very nice. And the doctor's where great too. I can't help but think some of the people complaining about the wait times. are the ones that didn't even need to be in Emergency. If your not in a really bad way. Wait to see a G.P.

Terrible and negligent hospital. I have had to take my 12 yo daughter 5 times in the last 6 weeks due to severe abdo pain. Took my 12yo to lrh and after 7 hours in emergency they discharged her even though she was in severe pain and had just had her appendix out 3 weeks ago. I asked drs to do some bloods or ultrasound and they refused. They sent her home even though i stated she wasnt well enough and her pain was a 7 out of 10. We went home and 2 hours later we were back and within 1 hour of being back she was admitted and spent 4 days on a ward. On the day of discharge i was told by the dr i could take her home and if we would like to wait for the dietician to come we could but the dr couldn't guarantee how long it would take. After waiting several hours with no sleep we decided to head home. I was told i just needed to sign a discharge form. 3 days later i find out the hospital reported me to child protection for taking my child home against medical advice. Even though the dr told me it was fine.. funny how the hospital didnt mention to dhhs they discharged her 4 days earlier despite MY wishes and just 2 hours later we were back and she was admitted. This hospital lies the nurses are so rude and i will never go back again. Dont bother people take your sick family members to warragul as apparently they are much better and actually treat patients with dignity and respect. Worst experience ever and I will be making a formal complaint!
