A very worthwhile place to visit as the art we saw - Jane Walker’s retrospective was a delight. It’s in a beautiful airy gallery. Spoke to Jane’s son about his late mother’s work and told him we enjoyed it. The place also runs classes for budding artists. It’s across from St Patrick’s cathedral and just up from lovely gardens. Do come to visit.
Excellent art exhibitions and openings. The range and quality of the art is compelling and they showcase paintings and drawings of a fairly wide variety of media and genres, including digital graphics, as well as sculptures and occasional installations. An inclusive and diverse atmosphere, this society has evolved over time and kept pace with technology. The team here have done a great job fundraising and Richard has taken up leadership with an excellent predecessor in Eileen. The heritage-listed gallery has in recent years undergone intensive restoration and upgrade with thanks to private, as well as public, funding. Staying true to the historical significance of the building whilst modernising it to greatly improve the amenities, it now includes a lift for greater access, mobility and inclusion of more diverse visitors. Dame Nellie Melba taught students singing here and oft stood on the balcony to perform to crowds who gathered on the footpath below. It is a pleasure to be part of this community and enjoy the works of both local and international artists, of which we can't help but be immensely proud of. The real sweetener at this gallery is no entry fee but becoming a member has its rewards not the least of which is being part of this community. Or you can donate to support the importance of art as a healing activity.
Rhiannon made me an excellent very hot flat white and told me about the love drawing sessions. It's so lovely that artists get to work here
A lovely little building easily accessible by tram. Recommended to check their website and visit when exhibitions are held.
Lovely gallery close to city Gardens. We enjoyed all of the art, including children's exhibitions. Access: inside has a lift, but not at front door yet ... many steps.
A gala event, graced by many active artists. An event not to be missed as it showcased the artist of the year over the last 50 years.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A great little gallery space. Fantastic to have been included in the AASPI Shot in the heart of Melbourne exhibt.
Love being a member and having my art in the exhibitions.
A great place to enjoy and purchase art from local artist. They organise a lot of exhibitions so there's always something new to look at. You can also sign up to art classes and come to free painting demos and other events. I think the rooms are for rent for corporate events too. It's just a few minutes walk from Parliament station. Great building, great history, great art.
This grand lady is a delight whenever you visit. The architecture is fantastic and the art is always high quality. There is a lift for the disabled to get to the top floor, but there are still stairs at the entrance. You should subscribe to them to find out when each show is on.
