Went to the French Impressionist Exhibition & Kimono exhibition during my Melbourne holiday recently. Both were simply amazing experiences, not to mention the other 4 floors of amazing artwork, period pieces & exhibits. If you plan on visiting I recommend making this an all day experience in order to get the best possible outcome of art appreciation.
I had the privilege of visiting the National Gallery of Victoria for the first time to experience the extraordinary works of the legendary Yayoi Kusama. The exhibition was an immersive journey that beautifully intertwined suffering, brilliance, and transformation. With its spacious layout and thoughtfully managed visitor flow, every detail contributed to a deeply engaging and memorable experience. Truly remarkable!
Amazing artwork and most of it is free. Unless there’s an exhibit on you’re really wanting to see, there isn’t much need to purchase any tickets. Always have something new on display as well which is exciting and makes it always worth a visit. Definitely a must see in Melbourne.
I absolutely loved this art gallery from top to bottom. The exhibitions are well organised, the architecture was amazing, the staff was very helpful and there’s an infinite amount of art work. My favourite was Dali’s “Mae West Lips Sofa”. I’d recommend around 2-3 hours to check most of the museum, but honestly, you can get lost there for half day if you wanted to. I couldn’t recommend it more.
A variety of enjoyable exhibits, including some contemporary, modern and classical arts.nnThere was a women eating in one of the video work rooms, which was irritating and ruin the experience, after ignoring then telling her she can’t eat in here which she ignored I left the space and hoped I would run into a worker nearby, but after walking in both directions I couldn’t see anyone nearby and gave up. I’m sure the workers weren’t too far and I may have just got unlucky with the directions I was walking in both wings but I didn’t want to waste anymore time looking for someone when I just wanted to get back to enjoying the artworks.nnAdditional signs would be helpful, after seeing the initial items pointing in one directions I missed others that I didn’t know how to get to other sections until I made my way through a few of the spaces.
