The national gallery of Victoria has a lovely array of modern contemporary art, each room is a pure delight. I love renaissance art or art from around that period so this place challenged me in ways that were both good and bad. I really enjoyed viewing art in the modern area from a different country, the context is completely different from European art.nnI came here to learn more about Australia, to learn more about the aborigines, the Europeans that settled in Australia. Art is a great way to learn, inform, expose certain things about a community and I felt that I understood Australia a bit better than I did before.nnEach room is so clean, curated in a way that feels nice and open. The staff are incredibly nice, they had a smile on their face and were always there whenever I needed help. I arrived in the morning and left late in the afternoon, that should tell you how vast this place is. If you're a lover of architecture, you'll love this gallery, it's a really nice space, filled with light and openness.nnIf you love art, architecture or you want to have coffee, come to this place you'll love it
Wonderful place to visit as a local or a tourist. Free admission but extra charge for some exhibitions.nWide variety of art, sculptures, porcelain, silver, textiles and installations.nCafes are well priced. Gift shop has some reasonably priced objects and postcards, but also some that are overpriced - particularly the scarves and jewellery.nEscalators and lifts cater for those with mobility needs.nFree guided tours are very good.
The National Gallery of Victoria is a stunning place with an incredible collection of art from around the world. The exhibitions are always well-curated, and the architecture itself is beautiful. A great spot to explore, relax, and get inspired!
Free entrance, except ground floor exhibition.nDefinitely worth your trip. Level 1 Asia and Level 2 Europe have the most arts and antiques for viewing.
Great spot to spend some time, get out of the weather and look at art, sculpture and design.nThere's always some ticketed showings pricing as per website but there is also a multitude of free exhibitions as well. And generally you get a small sample of the paid exhibitions outside of the ticketed area, if you're not sure you'd like it.nThere's escalators as well as ramps and elevators. Each level has toilets available as well. Some spacing is narrow though and escalators are single file.nThere's a tea room, cafe and a gift shop.
