A brilliant little collection of quirky and fascinating pieces that will no doubt catch your eye. Whether you are just coming in to browse at the artistry on display or looking to add some unique and modern pieces into your home, you've come to the right place. Love that they have a selection of illustrative books as well if you're wanting something a bit easier to carry home with you
Every time I’m in Melbourne I make a point of visiting Outre Gallery. I love the vibe and there’s always something new to look at in both their lower and upper levels. The staff are available and friendly if you have questions, but mostly leave you alone to look around and enjoy yourself. A good mix of international and local art pieces of varying styles, but mostly pop culture. If you like the artist Shag then this is the place to go. They have art books, zines, art prints and pins for sale, plus many of the art pieces. I’ve been to a few of their exhibition launch events and it’s a fun opportunity to meet the artists and have a free drink in an open and inclusive environment. Easy to find on Elizabeth Street. Recommended.
My new favourite place to visit in melbourne. A fantastic selection of mixed art and books, there’s something for everyone here and a challenge to leave without making a purchase, everything reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Pictures come framed and bubble wrapped ready to go.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
WOW I’d been devastated some years back when these guys left Sydney whilst I was living up there, because of the specially curated range & truly wondrous collection of artworks & pieces by uniquely chosen, very talented artists I was THRILLED to rediscover Outré at the weekend, but especially for finding & getting to buy a rare book to complete the Russian Criminal Tattoos set which I now have
Our favourite gallery, it never disappoints. We always want to buy ALL THE THINGS! Need to start building some more walls in our house. So many favourites. Beautiful affordable artworks and a small selection of books.
I got a set of Michael Reeder's work, but I was very disappointed at the way I was treated as an asian in the shop. The tall girl who served me didn't give me a friendly look and treated me in a rude wayfrom body language and tone. Won't recommend it to my friends unless the owner could do some trainings with staffs' manner.Reservation recommendedNo
Unwelcomed. A disappointing experience. The staff's indifference and condescending attitude towards customers created an unwelcoming atmosphere. Their dismissive behavior overshadowed any enjoyment I could have had while appreciating the artwork. Improvement in customer service is crucial for the store's reputation and overall experience. From the moment I entered, it was evident that the staff had little interest in assisting customers or fostering a welcoming environment. Any attempts at conversation were met with complete disregard for my existence with the exception of occasional eye contact amidst their personal and loud conversation concerned with enjoying animal cruelty. The dismissive responses and a lack of genuine engagement sent a clear message that the presence of a customer was either an inconvenience or simply inconsequential to them. Despite my personal unwelcoming experience I continued to browse the store as I had travelled quite a long way, several hours, to be there; what made matters worse however, was witnessing the staff's condescending attitude towards other customers, particularly non-English speaking. Their tone and choice of words were disrespectful and belittling, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone present. Such behavior not only tarnishes the reputation of the business but also undermines the artists whose work is being represented, which should be inclusive and inviting to all to enjoy and purchase. Although I am grateful to have seen and enjoyed some of the works in the store, it was a rushed and uncomfortable experience. The staffs demeanor overshadowed any enjoyment I could have derived from the artwork on display and made it impossible to even visualise the artworks in my office or home, a crucial step of the art-buying process for me. It is my hope that the business takes immediate steps to address these issues and improve the overall customer experience. Treating visitors with respect, attentiveness, and genuine interest should be a priority for any establishment, especially one that aims to showcase and promote art. This is something I can honestly say would've made a considerable difference and possibly even led me to have left the store with a happy purchase as there were a few works that had really caught my eye. In the circumstance of the business not being proactive to this complaint, I urge the partnering artists to attend the store and reconsider their involvement with such a business where the atmosphere is so uninviting that it certainly serves to decrease the likelihood of selling an artwork let alone even enjoying it.
I love this place! Been coming here for years and there's always something new to look at and their art book selection is pretty good. Lovely staff as well and a wonderful place to browse and buy art.
Unusual and quirky styles of art showcased, well worth a quick stop if nearby! All pieces appeared to be on sale, some of which were quite inexpensive. I bought a small felted piece as a gift, chatted briefly with a lovely staff member about it. Was a cheerful and worthwhile visit!Visited onWeekday
I always pop in here when I’m in Melbourne. Super cool gallery, really good pricing. Staff are amazing. Highly recommend.
