Story

THE hairdressing was founded in June 1999 by Darren Jones, who to this day remains the Director.

The concept was to create a modern but timeless boutique hairdressing salon that provided personalised hairdressing services, in a calm, relaxed environment.

The salon was designed by Sydney Architect Gavin Gillett. The inspiration was drawn from 50’s and 60’s housing and blended with some beautiful elements from current industrial designers such as the Philippe Stark hair washing basins.

‘We surveyed our clients to find out what they were looking for and what made them feel comfortable in a hairdressing salon and one of the key words that came out was an ‘intimate’ space. Gavin interpreted this by creating a series of smaller more private spaces that blended seamlessly into each other.’

Darren has been hairdressing now for 28 years and he loves the process of assisting clients to look and feel their best. He enjoys working with the natural fall and growth of the hair to create individual style for each client.

Darren has also written and presented a series of educational courses called ‘aesthetics’ to the hairdressing industry. These courses are aimed at sharing his approach to cutting women’s hair, in a more natural way that creates an individual look for the client.
