Great venue that gets lots of good acts.  Have been to quite a few this year, really good to be able to get so close to the action

Edit belowSad to say I don't want to come here anymore. I thought a lot about whether to write this but I would love to see improvement if this can be taken on board. I really like the concepts behind the events but the last three times I had to leave the event early. I gave feedback in person the last time, which appeared to be brushed aside.nThe main issues I would like to see addressed are:n1. They overcrowd popular events to the point where 4/5 of the entire area is filled like sardines. When something went wrong at the front it was nearly impossible to get my friend out quickly, leading to further distress.n2. They close the front bar, then people can't get service out of the side window for the 2nd bar, even if nobody is at the main section of the bar.n3. They design the events for what looks good on camera, they don't prioritise the experience of the people attending. For example, for a visually focused event like a dance show, they shone lasers and bright stage lights onto the faces of the crowd so people would get periodically blinded. When asked whether they could point the lights up, they refused, citing aesthetic as the reason. Another example of this is they don't provide seating for dance shows so people can see. There is no point attending a vision based show unless you are at the very front because the venue wants the crowd to be standing and gathered up close to the stage. I am a tall person, but I only ever caught glimpses of the show because we were slightly further back.nnEdit: to respond to Baso comments.nnFunny, I haven't had the same issues at other venues for similar events. Looks like you are trying to say this is a me problem, which is fine. You do you, and I'll go elsewhere.nnYour staff are unresponsive to the side bar window.nnYou have the ability to talk with the artists to provide a better experience. You look like you are using their preferences to excuse making a hostile environment.nnI said camera, not live stream.nnThis isn't a mobility issue. The first two standing rows block anyone's view of what is happening on stage.  I don't mind standing. I do mind paying a lot of money to  not see the majority of the performance I paid to see.

The Basement is everything you want in a gig venue. It's grungy, has great pub food I had a Temple of the Dog, pool tables, and great staff the guy who picks up the glasses is an awesome dude!. The one downside is that if you're not up the front when the band starts, you can't see much more than the bands' heads see photo. It would be good if the stage was a little higher. That said, the sound was amazing! If I didn't live in Melbourne I'd be there more often! A++

Great option for a night out in Canberra.nnTasty meals with a good range of burgers. Band area packs a decent crowd with good acoustics. Whether you're wanting to rock out to a band or just hang out and shoot some pool with your mates The Basement delivers.
