One of the best museum in Australia I have visited soo far.nThey have very good collection of animal birds, the butterfly room was spectacular.nIt’s a great place to spend a good time of 1.5 to 2 hours.nA great place and must visit attractions for tourists.

Huge museum with very interesting exhibitions on the history, culture, animals and art of Tasmania presented with rich content and high context. The museum was so big, we could not even „digest“ all information or provided texts, so we focused on some topics and sections of the museum. It is free of entry and a very recommended visit if you have 1-2h available during your stay in Hobart.

Quite a good museum. It was free on the day I went. Maybe it's always free. I'm not sure. Very kid/family friendly. If you find noise overwhelming, go at lunch time during the week when most families have left. I went for the Tasmanian Tiger. They have an informative exhibit. I also liked the little Tasmanian devil. He was very cute. I didn't realise there would be so many skeletons which is great. I also quite like the video with the universe playing on it. The chair is very comfy. The paintings  along the purple wall were also very pleasant.

It’s such a blessing for the community to have a free museum like the Museum and Art Gallery here in Tasmania  There are so many different exhibitions covering a wide range of topics  To be honest, I’m not usually that interested in museums but we ended up learning so much and really enjoyed our visit!  If you’ve never been, whether you’re a tourist or a local, you should definitely come and experience it for yourself  There’s something for everyone kids and adults alike will find something fascinating to explore ‍‍‍

This is a brilliant museum and gallery located in two buildings which have been beautifully renovated whilst retaining their heritage and integrity. The collections are eclectic and high quality. The Australian artworks are wonderful including classics like Robert, Bunny and McCubbin. There are temporary exhibitions.  The Beetle collection was astounding and the photos of Pompeii so beautiful and evocative. The works of Oliffe Richmond are so wonderful. Set over two levels, there is a lift between the floors.  The staff are helpful and very knowledgeable. There is no charge to enter the museum and gallery which is fantastic.  There is a cafe and a gallery shop.. A great place to spend several hours.
