Amazing Japanese restaurant. Food is fresh. Service is quick. So many superb selections. I ordered the eel bento and everything in the “box” was excellent. It was my first time and it definitely did not disappoint.
Local sushi restaurant, the taste of the sushi is decent. Salmon that day was good, aburi texture was spot on but the kingfish was milder than average. They serve their squid/ika nigiri with a minty herb/leaf which was interesting, very much YMMV. We also got their tempura udon, and the tempura was excellent. Thick, crunchy, fragrant. Would suggest trying the tempura if you find yourself there. Overall their portion sizes & prices are squarely average.
We ordered the 10pcs Salmon Only and the Smoked Salmon Nigiri. Salmon sashimi was so fresh and just melts in your mouth! Good quality Smoked salmon nigiri was also really yummy. The sauce was not overpowering, it was just nice and the smoked salmon adds the perfect smoky flavour. Staffs were really friendly and the place feels so cozy, definitely a vibe! 10/10 recommend.
Typical Korean run Japanese restaurant. Everything was overly seasoned, too salty and sweat. My protein was severely overcooked and dry. Those were all tolerable. what shocked me was how little service they provide for pretty highly priced food. I spent nearly $30 for a lunch meal, but was told that I can go get my own cutlery and water. There is a mother with her child there struggling, and no help was provided. I am really surprised to see a “restaurant “ like this can survive in five dock. Oh don’t forget, you have to go up to the counter order and pay first before getting your food like a street stall. I think the owner should really reflect on their service. They can now relying on the little competition in the area, but with metro coming in, I’m sure sushi places will start blossoming and they won’t get away with providing food and service as such.
One of the best sushi in the district Reasonable price, high food quality Busy business, however, surprising efficiency My personal preference for the nigiri is to order "no sauce" to keep the original taste of the wagyu/sashimi Both recommended for dine in or takeaway
This is a cute little local joint that does some traditional Japanese food and some fusion dishes too. The staff a nice but the service is somewhat inefficient at times, especially when they are busy. The restaurant is very open, so.it can get cool of a night. They have blankets for people sitting outside or near the door. In regards to the food, the teriyaki salmon is glorious! Absolutely get it! The best value is with the Bento Box. These are massive. You'll be able to feed two people easily with one meal. The have alcohol sales on premises and you can get Japanese beer. They also have happy hour specials for students most afternoons. It's also quite reasonably priced for the area. The decor is a bit lacking and the bathroom situation needs work, bit if you're in it for the food then you'll be happy.
Very fresh fish considering a wide variety we got for the large size mixed sashimi & sushi pretty good value at $32, cut well for both sashimi and sushi. Rolls are ok tasting $8, although a bit messily put together. Overall. Great neighbourhood joint for fresh Japanese.
Lured in by a mate’s photo of foie gras-dusted nigiri sushi, I recently checked out the curiously named Sushi Oh-Oo. You’ll find the modest, galley-like restaurant in Five Dock. The intimate restaurant is fronted by a small enclave of outdoor, curbside tables separated from Great North Road by a screen, and an orderly row of chairs for customers awaiting takeaway. There’s certainly no space for them inside! Despite the tiny footprint, effort has been made to create an inviting space using natural materials. The kitchen is encased in wood and paper screens. Overhead there’s a dark bamboo ceiling and down one side, a textural stucco feature wall with leaves inset into the plaster that reminds me of a bamboo forest. Hanging ukiyo-e pictures of the floating world flags add a splash of bright colour to the otherwise neutrally toned room. Staff use little stools to retrieve dishes over the high sushi counter that is decorated with fish scale tiles. While sushi is what I’m here to eat, I note that the illustrated menu also offers up an extensive array of hot dishes and bento boxes. First dish to arrive is the aforementioned Grilled Big Salmon Belly Nigiri with Foie Gras $15/2 pieces. A small barrel of hand-shaped sushi rice is draped in a big, fatty swathe of salmon belly. It has been given a very light sear to activate the fat, and a good dusting of finely shaved foie gras. It’s rich, indulgent and extremely delicious. I pull back with Avocado Nigiri $4/2 pieces. It arrives as two gravity-defying pieces topped with fans of flawless, ripe avocado. Egg Nigiri $4/2 pieces here is delicately sweet and tender, rather than rubbery and flavourless as so many of them are. The topping to rice ratio is generous, secured firmly with little bands of nori. Grilled Wagyu Beef Nigiri $18/6 pieces is the perfect way to finish. Each piece is tender with a big, flavoursome beef hit. They’re painted with sticky yakiniku sauce that’s used sparingly enough to just provide some caramelisation and sweetness, knocking out the need for soy sauce; though the fluffy wasabi is an asset against the rich meat. Sushi Oh-Oo’s standout sushi will definitely drag me back - I don’t think I have eaten better sushi in the Inner West.
If I could give this place 10/10 I would. I have been going here for over 15 years. I started going to this place when it was run by the old owners and then taken over by Jimmy and Stephen. The sushi is always of the highest quality. I have never had a bad meal. I eat there around once a week : When I moved out to western Sydney I would travel back to get sushi from here. It is always so fresh and yummy! Highly recommend :D
The Udon and sushi and karaage set was a very good deal! Overall the food was nice, just the sushi rice was a bit dry
