Nice tiny Norman style castle! Not large so extremely suitable for an after lunch short visit.nnI like Benson the cockatoo though they’re everywhere in the wild.nnThe treasure map questions are interesting as well! Especially for Euro history lovers! I managed to answer most of questions about medieval and Roman, but didn't know much about William the Conqueror. The staff is very nice and friendly, and knows a lot about it!
Sunshine Castle – Not What It Once Was!nnSunshine Castle has been a staple visiting spot for Sunshine Coast locals for as long as my wife has been alive. In fact, there are photos of her at this castle as a baby! Just before we got married, we visited the castle together. But due to its age and I imagine financial struggles, it’s now falling into a bit of disrepair. I’d say 50% of it is closed down.nnThey do offer a substantial discount—$10 per person—to visit. This lets you see the doll museum and wander around the castle’s exterior. I love this place and have fond memories of what it once was.nnIt’s been a tourist attraction on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast for the last 50 years. In 2020, the castle was forced to close part of its original buildings and now restricts access to a mini-tour which is what we did.nnIt’s still a great space to walk around. Dusty had fun dressing up as a knight, and we enjoyed the little quiz scattered throughout.nnI wish I’d taken more photos in the doll display area—the only way I can describe it is creepy and weird, haha!
We visited Sunshine Castle in Bli Bli today. The staff member who greeted us was absolutely lovely Amy?? — super welcoming and had such a nice attitude, which makes a huge difference.nnWe did the treasure hunt throughout the castle, and it was fun, but just be prepared to read all the information plaques around the place to find the answers. The clues aren’t next to the info, so there’s a bit of wandering and hunting involved.nnIt is a shame the main parts of the castle are currently closed due to structural issues. It would be amazing if they could add viewing windows, roped-off platforms, or peek-through areas so visitors can still see the history behind those closed sections.nnThe doll museum… honestly, creepy as hell but also super impressive. The detail and work that’s gone into each display is next-level. It actually made me think they should do a full Halloween “Fright Night” — something similar to Auckland’s Spookers attraction in New Zealand. Open at night, slightly higher admission, actors hiding in the displays who jump out when you press the buttons that light everything up. It would be brilliant, bring in extra customers, and make great use of the castle, which I imagine isn’t easy to maintain.nnOverall, worth a visit and heaps of potential if they keep adding to it!
We had a good time. It's sad to see previous reviews really not appreciating Sunshine Castle and what remains of it. I certainly felt the charm and my daughter absolutely loved all the dolls - what a collection. Before going inside and seeing the collection, the kids got to dress up outside. If you take the time to read what's there, and are keen to learn what they have to offer, you could be there over an hour.
Great for kids. A toy and doll museum set in amongst a Medieval vibe castle.nCafe. Toy shop.
