I'd like to start that I have provided feedback to the hospital on their form and received no acknowledgement or response after 2 months.nEmergency staff were wonderful to me and nurses very friendly and kind.nUnfortunately my experience in the orthapedic/rehab ward was nothing less than terrible, when I first arrived in particular.nI was put in a room that should not be used as the air con doesn't work in their effecticely on an extremely hot day i was in trouble. They are aware of the issue but still use the small room near the nurses station. The nurses on the desk were so mean and refused to give me any assistance or pain relief until i was due, because i had buzzed too many times begging for help, 3 maybe 4 times over 4 hours remember i couldnt even toilet myself one of them said, Her words ...I'm not responding to the buzzer until you are due for pain relief.nGiven I couldn't walk due to a very badly broken foot and shoulder broken in hospital and awaiting surgery, I was reliant on nurses for everything.nOver a period of 7 days those 2 nurses and about another 4 I had were nasty and very unprofessional, and need to get a new profession.nIf you have lost all of your kindness and compassion, nursing is not for you.nThe rest of the nurses were marvellous kind, professional beautiful people doing an excellent job. I wish I knew names but they don't wear their badges or they are covered, and they don't update their names each shift on the board very often.nnThe nurses were also very understaffed which no doubt doesn't help their mood, but again a few are in the wrong job.nI hope one day the hospital will at least respond.nA government audit is needed.n5 stars plus to the good staff, 1 to the others so I gave a 3 overall.nI have told my surgeon of the bad experience and other surgeons since at St Vincents.nScared to ever be admitted again.
I will be writing a formal letter to St Vincents about this matter, however the treatment my partner recieved in the ED to treat a wound with bone exposure over the weekend was abysmal. I had never seen such incompetence and disorganisation. We ended up being sent to St Andrews for treatment after a nearly 6hr wait and the experience at St Andrews was completely different- it definitely highlighted a serious lack of efficiency and competence at St Vincents.
Imagine having surgery then sharing a room with two other people. It was three people to one bathroom. Mixed ward. And it was so small there was barely a room between the bed and curtain to the person next door. There were no lights, apart from the main switch to turn on all the fluro lights in the ward. Has St Vincent’s started using storage rooms to house people?
I can't praise the staff enough during my recent stay after knee surgery. Wonderful hospital and very friendly staff who were happy to help always wearing a smile. The menu was excellent and food was amazing. Top quality care.
5 days post knee replacement surgery and on discharge from hospital I was literally dumped in the reception area of the main entrance by my ward nurse. Left in a wheelchair with all my belongings and expected to make my own way to my ride home parked outside in the designated area. I was told by the nurse to have my 8.5 month pregnant daughter push me to the car and carry my belongings and when I refused to ask my daughter to assist me for obvious reasons, I was told to use my crutches and make my own way out.nnAlso immediately prior to discharge the ward nurse had to take me to the pharmacy to collect my discharge medication. Why isn’t this sorted prior to discharge because it required the nurse to push me up a steep ramp and down again and I literally braced for impact on the way down ramp.nnThankfully the receptionist wheeled me to my ride home and did her best to assist me to get in the car. Unfortunately I hurt myself in the process.
