Great station for train enthusiasts as there are a few train viewing spots as well as a number of interesting info boards. There are 16 platforms but some V-line platforms are split into an A and B side. Suburban trains run platforms 9-13 whilst platform 8s is unused. There are lots of great shops at the station, as well as a few vending machines.
It’s a wonderful station with a mix of regional fast trains, metros and coaches and being there on the peak hours gives a vibe of living in a metro city. Attending office in melbourne twice a week and this hub is a part of my office days. The trash bins are not available in platforms and probably people tend to litter at platforms. 2 rest rooms at the north and south ends. Some comment on the diesel fumes smell, probably train operators need to look into it for fume extraction.
Good and convenient station which is right next to a tram stop to Melbourne CBD , easy access and walking distance to the Spencer street outlet . You can take bus to the airport as well as train to Sydney etc. You can also have shower in the traveller aid centre at $10pp with towel provided.
This station looked better on the blueprint.nnIn practice it is dark, dirty and it smells...nnThe intercity trains run on diesel fuel which means you periodically smell the fumes, which are trapped by the overhead roof.nnIt may be a transport hub, but unlike Flinders street station it certainly is not a destination in itself.nnOne simply gets off here and goes to their intended destination, because of how scummy the station is.nnI rate this station 2 1/2 stars out of 10 and the only reason I'm being so generous is because of its convenient location as it is close to marvel stadium, McDonald's,KFC, The Mail Exchange Hotel and many other places.nnThe shops within the station itself are adequate.nnit isn't something that would take your breath away, but they get the job done when it comes to the bare essentials.nnIf the options don't tickle your fancy, the Spencer Outlet Centre formerly DFO has a lot more shopping options and can easily be reached from the train station.
