This school is very racist. My 12 year old came home CRYING. Because someone stole his lunch that I spent 2 hours on and threw it down the 5th story. Also because he wasn’t white. Someone stuffed tapioca pearls down his nostrils. We had to go to South Melbourne hospital. 0/10 DON’T. Bring your children here. If i could give it 0 stars, I would. The teacher was also tickling his feet during class. WHAT THE HELL.
Overall it wasn't a bad school. The teachers I had were actually super sweet most the time, and it was a cool, funky design for the exterior... Still not the best. This is definitely a very new school, and it was clear to see within my time here that the teachers were still slightly unaware on how to run classes, e.t.c. It was all a bit over the place and disorganised. I'd also like to mention how the layout is probably the worst part of this place. There are no walls in classrooms. The only thing separating all the kids are small, waist-high shelves. This becomes very difficult especially for older kids as you have to be more careful than normal with your noise level as there are other children right next to you. While trying to learn you can hear the teacher from the classroom next door, or see the kids from other classes running around which ends up being very distracting. There'd be times where the class next to you would be doing a test, and you'd have to be especially quiet. It was difficult because I honestly didn't feel like an individual class since you could always peek into the people next to you. An example I can remember that really started to get on my nerves was the year 5/6 classes were located right next to the year 1 classroom. Apparently the year 1's were crying during lunchtime because the year 5's and 6's were being too loud. I honestly think that the thought process of putting 6 year olds next to the oldest kids in the school wasn't very well executed. In result it meant that the 5's and 6's had to rest their volume down to an even level for year 1's, even though the year 1's were being distracting to us. They couldn't alter their noise level because of their age, and it was difficult for them. You'd often here them singing nursery rhymes while you'd be trying to focus. Also the play area is way too small. When I first came to this school I was shocked that you couldn't also sit and 'play' inside. And I also thought that playtimes would be split up across the year levels, but everyone just played at once. I thought it was crazy because there was so obviously barely any space for everyone, and playtimes were extremely crowded. Not to mention how there was no individuality in the school. From my time there, year 5 and 6 classes were regularly fused to work together, or would be learning the same thing. It was fun at first, but over time you could tell both classes were getting annoyed over it. At the end of the year we had an 'end of year treat'. The year 6's were super bummed because it turned out the year 5's were going too and got to choose our 'treat' for us. Nothing against younger classes, but it seemed like a rushed idea. Both of the classes were clearly drained from having no individuality, and the issue was brought up to teachers but still nothing was done. And the teachers really need some work. In classes, the teachers only gave attention to bad kids. There'd be children clearly struggling and they wouldn't pay attention to them, but focus 24/7 on the one boy in the back of the classroom playing games on his laptop or something. This left me an attention beggar for high school. My teachers at ps very rarely gave it to me, and left me with the mindset of, ''If I want attention I need to do something bad to get it'' Now I do bad things, like purposely get bad grades, because I was taught that was the way you get the attention of others. Overall, nice school. I think it could use some work, but it was all okay. If you want to send your kid here I'd definitely suggest doing it any year from year 4 or below, because the older you get the worse quality teaching is. I'm sure they could do good, but since the school is new they weren't properly prepped. When I started high school I was completely confused, because we had not been told anything by our primary school teachers. A lot of the topics we're learning this year, we were expected to be taught in year 6 - but we weren't. Cool school though
My kid came came home crying 2 months ago saying he wishes he wasn't chinese. Also he was bleeding and had lost his right arm + leg. We went into a calm discussion and he explained how his teacher had hit him, pushed him down the stairs, ripped his arm and leg off and pushed him off the 3rd storey. Also called him slurs Horrifying! im only giving this pace 2 stars because they left him 2 of his limbs...
Great leadership. Principal is caring, approachable and raising the bar for what great public education should be! Younger teachers which also means modern methodogies and facilities. The principal greets every single student at the door with a vibrant welcoming smile.. very inclusive for all ! I am z teacher in another school and im greatly impressed!!
The teachers are great and they're doing a fantastic job during the pandemic. I'm so happy with this school, my daughter loves her teacher and she loves attending class! The building is brand new so all the facilities are in great conditions. The only downside is that the outside area doesn't have any shade and the summer heat is unbearable. A part from that, everything else is awesome.
Great leadership team, amazingly caring teachers with diverse and inclusive community spirit! We are indeed, very pleased and proud for being part SPMS and its broader community
Beautiful building and my daughter loves her new school and teacher
It's good five floors access to a park it's great
