We are a Japanese language school located in the Melbourne CBD.

Story

We provide experienced and qualified Japanese lessons in Melbourne.
We want our students to learn Japanese like native Japanese speakers.

We offer group lessons with class size no bigger than 6 people.
If you are shy, we also have private lessons too.

Our native teachers are super cool and qualified.
We trust our method to be faster and as effective as Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid I and II. (The original version, not the Jackie Chan version)

I've been studying at JM for a bit over a year now, and going to class every week is something I really look forward to. I love the immersive style of learning and the friendly staff. After studying for nine months, when I went to Japan I was able to communicate with native speakers on a range of topics. Definitely would recommend studying here!

Fantastic way to study Japanese either in-person or online in Melbourne. I have been studying Japanese on and off for over 15 years and the staff have been helpful and flexible in finding a study program that suits my needs. I have been studying Japanese under JM together with my partner since 2020. Kazumi sensei  has been such a delightful teacher who makes every lesson fun and enjoyable. We appreciate the effort she puts into preparing every class, and in ensuring we understood our materials and how to apply what we learn in everyday situations. She is also very friendly and we just love chatting with her about our lives in Japanese of course!. We always look forward to her classes and hope this will continue for a long time to come!

Myself and my boyfriend did a last minute course prior to our trip. The admin team helped us cram in an eight week course over six weeks without any issues. Our tutor Haruka Sensei is awesome!! She tailored each class to our goals. I am so surprised at how much we were able to learn in such a short amount of time. Arigato to the whole team :

I have been doing JLPT N3 private online classes for the past year. I lived in Japan for 2 years and wanted to continue my language studies back in Australia. I have a wonderful native Japanese teacher at the Japanese Melbourne Language school. I can see my weekly lessons allow me to continuously improve my conversational and grammatical Japanese. The Japanese Melbourne Language school was very flexible to find a day and time that suits my busy lifestyle. I really enjoy my weekly class and can really recommend this lesson format for a busy person who wants a convenient way to continue to learn Japanese.

Japanese Melbourne Language School is a fantastic place to come if you want to learn Japanese. They run both in person and online lessons so it is highly convenient for people such as myself who can’t attend in person. All of the teachers are super friendly and work hard to ensure the classes are interactive and a lot of fun. Haruna Sensei is amazing - she is always very patient with us and makes the lessons engaging and interesting. The classes  are definitely the highlight of my week! I highly recommend Japanese Melbourne to anyone wanting to learn Japanese!

I have been taking lessons through Japanese Melbourne for a few years now, and the immersion approach and professionalism of the teachers have been excellent. The lessons have been responsive to my needs, and the teachers provide the cultural context needed to appreciate the nuance of the language. I'm really looking forward to my next trip to Japan — thanks to JM, I feel more confident to go a bit further off the beaten tourist path.

My husband has been having one-to-one lessons via zoom through Japanese Melbourne for about three terms now. The teachers are excellent and he is responding to their style of teaching very well and enjoying the lessons. His knowledge and understanding of the language are progressing very well under Mao-sensei's tutelage. His written Japanese is coming along slower but his teacher is very happy to adapt the lesson and pace so that he is comfortable. They have had some great chats together!  The admin team at Japanese Melbourne are very responsive to emails and provide as much advance notice as possible of any lesson changes, as well as assisting with rescheduling lessons where necessary. They are very up front about fees and charges. I think the lessons are very good value for money, and I really recommend Japanese Melbourne and their teachers to anyone who is wanting to make some real progress with learning a challenging language.

I've been attending JM classes for about six months now....and am really enjoying learning Japanese.  I've had a couple of different teachers and they have been excellent. The Admin Team is friendly and responsive. I always look forward to my classes.
