The Shantara Resort are one of the many self-catering suites available in Port Douglas. The complex was very clean and well kept. Being so close to the rainforest I was a little worried that we may get a taste of the local wildlife such as spiders etc… but the rooms were exceptionally clean. There are a couple of swimming pools that were very welcome bearing in mind swimming in the sea around Port Douglas isn’t always the safest idea. Also provided were pool noodles and sunbeds making it a perfect place to relax in the sun. There was a small gym which was available most of the day. In the rooms there was a TV in a nice living area and each room had a balcony. As a self-catering facility we found the kitchens to be well stocked with glassware, crockery and kitchen tools along with supplies of tea and coffee. There was also a barbecue by the pool for guests to cook their own food on which was a nice touch. The location of the hotel was ideal only a short walk from four mile beach and the main street of Port Douglas itself. When we arrived the receptionist Elena was super at giving us some local knowledge and helping us book the excursions we did while we were there. In fact throughout our stay the staff at the resort were helpful in advising us and providing everything we needed.

One word - fabulous! We booked Shantara for a last minute trip to Port Douglas for the first week of the new year. We were initially just happy to have found availability during that week for such a reasonable price but we were also lucky enough to secure a pool deck studio room. We were excited about the beautiful rooms, the ease of access to the pool and the fact that it was adults only as we were looking for some quiet time together. Shantara exceeded our expectations as soon as we arrived. It was only 10:30am but our room was ready and the air conditioner was on, waiting for our arrival on a hot day. The room itself was lovely – very clean and bright, with a surprisingly large bathroom and shower recess for a studio apartment. The room was also practical for a stay at a hotel without a restaurant – with a fridge, sink and microwave. The hotel also provides you with lots of thoughtful inclusions to make your stay easier, such as glassware (and plastic for use in the pool area), plates, toaster, kettle, utensils, ironing board, hair dryer etc. It really had everything we needed to stay far longer than our 3 night stay allowed us. The pool was so nice – heated but still lovely and cool to slip into on a hot day – right off our deck! It was an easy walk into town – less than 5 minutes to walk to the main street and 10 minutes to walk to the Marina. We really loved the Shantara and sincerely hope we have the chance to stay again soon. Thank you! Sarah and Graham

Adults only. No not nudist you eejit. Just no kids under 16. Peter runs a top resort with 2 pools. A mix of swim out apartments with outdoor spa to small studios. I'd recommend the swim out with spa. Only negative is smokers are not welcome so the smoking 20% of the population are not catered for in any way. Not even a seat & ashtray out the front. Unlike Peppers across the road.

We recently stayed at the Shantara Resort for 3 nights and it was lovely. We found the room to be clean and fresh and having access straight off our room to the pool was great! Friendly and helpful staff and would highly recommend the accommodation to couples looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway with a 3 minute walk to the main street and restaurants! We will back for sure!

Great spot overall. Staff are very accommodating with what every you need, including tour bookings. They give you lots of information on each tour and who’s best to go with. It’s also quiet and relaxing without any kids around! Photo of the pool from our balcony.
