Very nice hotel. Owner was very kind and helpful. He got us upgraded to a better room since it was available. We stayed in room #2. It is spacious and comfortable. Great shared kitchen with complimentary milk, cocoa, coffee and tea. Will definitely be staying here again when in Christchurch.

Comfortable and friendly. Awoke to birdsong in the trees and pretty little garden setting. Handy with a host of good takeaway food options nearby. Kitchen also has a modest range of easy to reheat meals and snacks. The beach and pier are nearby and we struck the Saturday morning market and bought homemade German bread and nectarine/peach/Apple jam, cleverly packaged in upcycled bag.

Incredible little hotel in a quiet street.Great room prices.
Everything is clean, well organised, and the owner friendly and helpful.
We have room 1 with onsuite and there are soaps and shampoos, coffee tea, a couple of other snacks etc.
A bath too by the way.
In the kitchen there are some shelves with tins of beans etc for sale. And you can help yourself to coffee and breakfast if you want.

Wonderful place, next time we come back here.

Would rate this 9.2 star hotel a 0 if it were possible. Bruce the owner is a nasty ignorant asshol* that if something weren't to go his way, he'd throw a tantrum like a little child. The place is terribly laid out with vivid markings everywhere that are not clear at all what so ever, you share 1m by 2m kitchen that cannot be used after 10pm, if used past this time you get a $50 fine which is pathetic. The 1m by 2m shared bathroom is appalling as bugs come out from the skirtings, his mutt stinks out the whole house and i repeat HOUSE as this is not a hotel although Bruce thinks it is. Himself and his cleaners wake everyone up with loud noises at 8am every morning and wakes people up that are checking out at 10 am but wakes them up at 9am which again is just plain rude. First hand witnessed him yelling at a foreign couple as they couldn't understand what he was saying. 
Bruce if you cannot take previous criticism then i suggest you forget about "high ratings" and being the owner because you always have something negative to say about people's experiences and especially when it's your only job to make their experience unforgettable.
So yeah, i recommend this if you are looking for the worst experience of your life.

Best accommodation I have stayed in New Zealand! Very clean, modern and quiet. If you have your own car,everything is accessible! Very fair pricing and Bruce is a great, firendly and welcoming! Big recommendation!
