I think Rydges Hobart is one of my favourite hotels in Australia. The heritage building in itself worth visiting. There is something very special about it, the little fountain at the front, looked after shrubs, rooms with chess floor. Very 'homey'' feeling. Plus all the normal 'hotel' stuff, comfortable beds and an amazing lady at the reception. Whoever is managing this place doing a great job
For the North Hobart location, this is a lovely hotel. The building itself is quite beautiful, dating back to the early 1900s, retaining much character and elegance. The staff are friendly and attentive. The rooms could do with a slight bit of sprucing up and some love, but that's not overly surprising given the age of the building. Minor note: it was pretty cold when we visited, but we were very happy with the amount of heat the two room heaters provided.nLoved the location with the proximity of shops/cafes/cinema/restaurants/bars/pubs on the main strip, plus the Botanical gardens not far away. Certainly would stay here again if we were visiting the area.
Very nice room. Larger than normal at a good price. Big car park. Unfortunately the TV system didn’t work for us. So bring a laptop. Breakfast was complimentary and also great.
Lovely old restored building, on top of a hill. We stayed in an Executive Antique Suite with a great view.nnLots of parking and close to town.nnTerrific that it had a laundry, but they had run out of washing powder. Lucky we had a sachet in our luggage.nnMicrowave and crockery, cutlery, and glassware.nnLovely staff.
Would I stay again.... No.nGood location 10mins from Hobart town centre, the hotel is located in a beautiful old school building. That's the good news. Behind the facade, its not so good. We booked superior twin room, which includes a useless lounge area - the only tv is the bedroom, the only place to see the tv is by laying on the bed! The tv is bad, very cheap and nasty. Only the bed is worse. The mattress is way too soft ok personal choice, and the base is falling apart - feels like you'd fall off any moment. Worse hotel bed ever experienced!nSimple things make the difference - like wall hooks to hang wet coats, quality tea and coffee in the room, good size tea cups, a shower door that doesnt get stuck... Sadly the room didnt have any of these.nTwo for one drink offer at bar, draws you in, but with so many restrictions on its use its not worth it. Plenty of better places to eat and drink 10mins walk away in Elizabeth St.nEnjoy!
