The staff at this place always seem like they are having a bad day. No smiles. No pleasant greeting. Just, "What do you want." Been here a few times and always the same customer service, or lack of it. The outside area of the shop smells of rotten fish or prawns. It smells like food down a drain and the cooking oil smells old. As other people say on Trip Advisor, "How the hell could this place win an award." Wouldn't eat here even if it was free. The fish was dry and over cooked for the second time and the chips were rubbery and greasy for the second time. There is consistency in their cooking. No award winner here. There seems to be a large amout of bad reviews. You only read 1 or 2 bad reviews at the other take away businesses. Speaks for itself about the owner. Doesn't care about customer service or getting your order right. Ray Jay is only interested in your money.

Please note: Have change my 3 star review to 5 stars due to fear of the male owner tracking me down and killing me in my sleep. Tried this place (for takeaway lunch) because it wins the best fish and chips of our local radio station mix fm 92.7 every year and some people rave about it. Dunno what's so amazing about it. POSITIVES; nice seating outside under Leopard trees (on hot day was still pleasant) and would be nice at night with kids safely running around (not too many cars really as in the middle of suburbia at the very back of Moooloolaba). Easy parking. Bottle shop in same complex. Good for locals who don't want to fight the tourist crowd along the esplanade and spit. Chips nice (chicken salt) and extra cooked. Had other stuff i.e. hamburgers. Provided plates and cups etc near counter also. Takeaway/eat in available. NEGATIVES; not a great range of fish. Fish didn't look at all appetising prior to cooking. Fish nicely crumbed but stinky tasting with the silver skin still on (Cod) and it was not pleasant. Wouldn't be a great place to eat in bad or inclement weather. Went there solely for the fish and was not really that impressed - have had worse but have had way better. It was in the oddest spot in the middle of suburbia - not really a draw card for me to be honest. They were really slow to cook meal, they seemed to only be able to handle one meal, in order, at a time (I don't know how they fair when it's busy). I wouldn't return based on the food alone, maybe if it was convenient, but it was nothing amazing. I assume they win the best voted place each year as some friends keep on voting for them or something. The spit Mooloolaba is way nicer and so is the Caloundra Seafood Market. I tried it - was not fussed.

Nice fish and chips, had the beer battered chips and crumbed snapper. Went in with low expectations and was very pleasantly surprised

Rude owner. Inconsistent food. Over priced for the small serving of food. Far better value at the takeaways located at the Spit.
