Visited the Queen Victoria Building over the weekend and parked conveniently in the underground car park. The ambience inside is truly impressive — elegant, calm, and filled with a classic charm. The heritage architecture, with its grand arches, stained glass, and detailed interiors, makes the building feel timeless. The outlook and structure are beautifully maintained and offer a perfect blend of history and luxury, making it a pleasure to walk through even if you’re not shopping.
Queen Victoria Building cannot be confused with any other building in Sydney and it is like, say, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan.nYou can skip it but it is worth-visiting.nnI didn't go there for shopping; just wanted to look at this great building from the inside.nI later found out that there are four different styles that the architect used here and that the architecture truly looks like a cathedral it does, if you know it and look at the building from that standpoint!.nnThe building is also know for its clocks - just check them out, they really look great!nnI wouldn't say it is a No. 1 landmark building for Sydney nothing can compete to the Opera House but it is definitely a landmark that is worth visiting in the city.nA great building of its epoch.
Visited the Queen Victoria Building on George Street near Darling Harbor. This grand building opened in 1898 as a tribute to the Queen. It has a magnificent facade and stunning interior.nnConverted to a vertical shopping mall, it has five floors. The top three tend to be upscale shops and the bottom two more discount/outlet shops.nnThere are numerous cafes, high tea spots and places to purchase snacks.nnDon't miss the two hanging oversized clocks and beautiful stain glass.
Stunning building, a place very representative of Australian pride and heritage, showing off the best of the architectural and cultural inheritance of British empire of 19th century. This building and some other buildings in Sydney are extremely nice representation of the British architecture from that time.nnFar cry from shopping centres of North America, this is a much more stylish place where you could feel pleasant and nice any time of the week, since we visited during Christmas holidays, most of the stores were closed, but we could still enjoy the visit, especially with someone playing piano on the first floor, with so much style, it only added to a grandiose feeling in this building.nnAnd to compare with Toronto, although Canada is still officially member of Commonwealth states, I feel that there was more British influence felt in Sydney than in Toronto for some reason.
What a beautiful building. If you have time to spare, definitely worth having a look through the many levels. There are some lovely period details that you don't see elsewhere. Lots of different specialty shops to visit, and spoil yourself in.
