Useful location to access Parnell shops and the Domain and Museum which is well worth a visit. But the station is in a valley so a climb out required. No amenities, but security staff on site. An undertrack tunnel gets you from one side to the next. The old wood station is on the east side.
The station staff is super nice to guide me the shortcut to museum. Not recommend for family with young kids.
To reach the other line if heading into the city you have to walk through a tunnel that sits outside of the platform which takes roughly 5 to 7 minutes. Can't imagine anyone not thinking it a safety issue at night time. No visible toilet amenities and no convenient store for drinks. No vending machines. The train booth operators look confined/trapped. The signage from the main street to the train station is extremely lacking, almost like they want people not to use it ! Save for the large gravel parking spot which a lot of city workers will find handy during the week this train station is poorly designed and extremely inconvenient.
Came to the wrong station and a very nice man , from the ticket office, ordered us and paid for our uber. Rescued our trip on the Northern explorer for our wedding anniversary. Can't remember his name but thank you so much.
Parnell train station was where I road a train for the first time in my life when I visited New Zealand in June 2018. It was hard to find, but I was in a foreign country after all. I got on not really sure where I was going and ended up getting off at the Newmarket station where there were a bunch of shops. Love this train station and the fun memories that go with it!
Almost a textbook example of where and how not to build a station. Terrible amenity, access between platforms is bizarrely nowhere near the actual platforms, hard to find both bad location and bad wayfinding. Adds two minutes to how long it takes every train to get through, lengthening everyone's journey although that could be fixed by just closing the damn doors and getting the train moving faster - we seem to be the slowest in the world at that
Operational at last! They still have work to do, but what they have done so far is great. At this stage it only service the Southern line during the week with both western & southern weekends. Is great to see the Historic Newmarket Station which has been relocated here and looking great with fresh coat of paint. Unless your a locale it can be dificult finding the station which can be accessed by road, walkway underpasses, Domain bush treks or incompleat paths Carlaw Park. Stop 140
This station is still in development, hence not yet ready for wheelchairs, and still without toilets. The building is the refurbished old Parnell train station. At this time, the platform still don't have numbers; however, the digital time tables will be your best indicator. If the train destination listed on the board shows Britomart, then you are on Platform 1. Anything else: Platform 2.
While the station wasn't rated as wheel-chair friendly, i would think the surrounding steep streets with narrow footpaths and tightly parked cars might be even less practical for wheelchair users.
Poor design, you have to walk 4 minutes around under a bridge to get to the other platform. The bridge in question is a health risk due to people having been robbed and assaulted.
