Welcome to Pacific Coast Lodge, your 4-star flashpackers, where everyone knows your name! We are magnificently located within walking distance to the beautiful shores of Mount Maunganui Beach, voted the best beach in New Zealand! We offer affordable accommodation for one night stays or weekly boarders looking for work.

The friendly team at Pacific Coast Lodge are able to give genuine advice and offer great deals on the range of activities and adventures to help you make the most of your stay in Mount Maunganui, ensuring that you experience the best that the Bay of Plenty has to offer – anything from swimming with Dolphins, amazing walks & hot pools, to deep sea fishing, kayaking & surfing.

We are the only hostel in Mount Maunganui that actively assists you in finding work! Anything from fruit picking and orchard work, to factory and labouring jobs – we have people calling us daily for workers!

The hostel is well established and provides loads of the comforts you crave from a Backpackers. We have a variety of shared facility rooms to enjoy, with a huge communal kitchen (great for large groups!) with free tea/coffee/herbs/spices, an outdoor courtyard with BBQ's free to use, our very own games and reading room waiting for you to challenge us to a game of Table Tennis or have a jam on our guitars, along with a separate TV Lounge room upstairs kitted out with over 2000 movies on our media player.

And if that isn't enough, we are happy to provide you with free surfboards and free bikes to use so you can enjoy the sunshine and catch a few waves!

Groups are our specialty – having successfully hosted birthday celebrations, stag/hens nights, entire schools, and sports tournaments. We go out of our way to customise your requirements and can organise breakfasts, day tours or team building activities so it's one less thing to worry about!

I stayed at Pacific Coast Lodge & Backpackers for almost 2 months on a Work and Holiday visa, and honestly, it was an amazing experience! From day one, I felt like part of a family. The vibe in the hostel is always positive—there’s good energy, laughter, and people from all over with open hearts.nnI especially want to mention Alfi, a wonderful person who’s always including everyone in activities and paying attention to the little details that make a big difference. And Leti—an absolute gem—always checking in on you with a smile, organizing activities like yoga, and spreading warmth wherever she goes.nnThis hostel is more than just a place to sleep—it’s a real community. I’m leaving with unforgettable memories, new friends, and a lot of gratitude. I 100% recommend it to anyone coming to the area!
You are missing out if you don’t stay at this hostel. Staff are amazing, long term stayers/volunteers are so much fun and welcoming, hostel is always clean, good facilities, onsite parking and nearby street parking if that’s full. All around 10/10 place to stay!
The hostel itself is not bad at all. It has a couple of little things that could be improved the main issues for me were a bit low bunks, so you can't sit up if you sleep in the bottom bunk and only one drain for 3 showers, so the water sometimes doesn't go down and you might step into someone's water but in general I liked it. The kitchen is huge and even with loads of long-terms you will find space for your food. The rooms are quite big and there are huge lockers under the beds I've had a large suitcase, my room-mates had hiking backpacks and they all fit in the lockers, there is a pingpong table and a lot of common areas. When I arrived, there were maybe 5 forks for the whole hostel but later there more which means that the staff members address to the problems. The location is also good. Not far from town but also quite close to a supermarket.nHowever, I did not like how working and staying in the hostel is handled. It's not the hostel's fault how the contractor communicates or more to the point doesn't communicate and I fully understand that they have a policy to charge the card 3 days before your arrival. But if you are going to come to stay there for 3 months, some flexibility would be great. They should double check with the contractor when the job is supposed to start and let workers arrive later if the season is about to start later. We arrived early as this first payment is non refundable and taken automatically, had to wait for a very long time and finally most of us have found different jobs as it took way too long.nIn short, I would recommend the hostel itself but wouldn't recommend working with the contractor who has a partnership with the hostel.
Amazing place! This hotel has an amazing location, close to everything you need. The staff is super friendly and cool, always happy to help. The place itself is beautiful, with lots of style and great vibes. Definitely a great spot to stay!
This is one of my favourite hostels I've stayed at in New Zealand! I would 100% recommend staying here. All of the staff & guests I met were so lovely & welcoming & friendly. I felt really at home staying here & it's got such a nice vibe. It's walking distance to everything & not in the middle of town, which I liked because I was able to sleep well when I needed to! I ended up staying here longer than I was going to because I loved it so much. Mount Maunganui is definitely one of my absolute favourite places I have been in New Zealand
