This would have to be the best pub food in all of Tassie. The food you get is very good quality better than some restaurants out there. The food portions are massive and very tasty, the veggies are not your boring bland steamed veggies, they are the real deal. The garlic bread, the desserts are amazing and all very reasonably priced. The staff are always friendly and attentive to customers needs. They are open for lunch and dinner, I haven’t tried the lunch menu but the dinner menu is a must. If your looking for good quality food, value for money do yourself a favour, make a booking and try this place, you definitely won’t be disappointed, just very full.
It was so long ago since I last came here so this review is long overdue. The Ocean Child has always been known for it's meals and I wanted to see if they still stood up to what I remembered them being. Had booked ahead as I was taking a friend along. It wasn't particularly busy when I arrived but that changed as the evening progressed. Considering there were only two of them servicing the patrons they handled themselves really well. I hadn't had a parmigiana for some time so decided on that meal and a pale ale to drink with it. I was considering adding either an entree or dessert to the meal but opted out when ordering.....and lucky I did. The main reason was that the meal completely filled me that I couldn't have possibly had anything more. That's the main reason I've given it the rating that I have, yes the meal was very tasty but size of meal I got made it great value all up costing about $32 including a pint. I even had a look at some of the other meals being brought in for others and they all seemed like fairly large sizable dishes. If there's one thing I like as much as taste it's value for money and here you won't be let down. Nice work guys! Will be back
What a top experience from start to finish. We were greeted warmly by a friendly waitress and seated at a nice table. I had the Shanks and my meat was soft and tender. My mate had the Steak and even though my meal was delicious, I still had a bit of food envy it was epic. We got the Garlic Bread to start and it was so good that a couple of tables around us ordered it too. Well priced, great service, excellent atmosphere - we'll be back! #ricksreviews
Visited this place several time. Never disappointed. The menu I personally love the salt & pepper squid, smokey pork bbq ribs, panko crumb calamari size is generous, the staff are very friendly and helpful. There was one dessert I couldn't find it in the menu anymore you may check with the staff whether they still have this dish - it looked like fried dumplings with nutella filling, served with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious! The savoury taste of the dumpling's skin combine with the sweetness of warm, melted nutella, combined with vanilla ice cream - will give you mood booster and happy tummy
During lunchtime, this is not a regular pub, more like a high end cafe. Meals are well priced and the service was equal to any 5 star hotel. Food was very fresh and light. Perfect for families during lunch. Absolutely recommend for a meal and drink.Food: 5/5
Must visit, very rusty and old school pub, best pub in Hobart.Food: 5/5
Staff very friendly, food hit and miss, ribs very good, very affordable wine list and spirits. Wine list could be improved. Will go back again for the big smiles.
This is the best value pub in Hobart! We stumbled across it on our last day and it's definitely where the locals go! It was busy with tradies on their break, families out for lunch and grown up kids out for lunch with the oldies. The staff are the friendliest you'll ever come across and the food was incredible! Highly recommend for value and quality!
Hands down the best Beer battered fish n chips I've had, just perfect and big serves. As other review, treat yourself if you want a beautiful, harty pub meal. Pub feels like a step back in time with such an authentic nautical feel. Love it. I'll be back next trip Just wish they were in Adelaide
Came as a recommendation and my partner and I snuck in before the kitchen closed. Tried the special chicken with seafood while my partner had the lamb. Large plates and generous pours. Certainly lives up to the reviews and is a lovely pub in TasRecommended dishesSeafood
