We traveled up from Hamilton to find a ball dress in Auckland and had visited many shops before stepping into Modes and what an absolute treasure and breath of fresh air it was to find someone like Fred who helped with choosing a ball dress for my daughter. Extremely pleasant, helpful and knows his stuff… But It wasn’t just that he was helpful; he went above and beyond to find something that suited our needs and genuinely cared about the “end look” our daughter was after. He has an eye for detail and found the perfect dress for us in the end. We felt as it he had the time of day for us even though he had other customers to tend to as well. The professionalism, genuinely caring and kind nature of Fred meant our whole experience of “finding a ball dress” became a wonderful core memory. If your looking for a ball gown or have a special event… go and see Fred at modes… he will not disappoint!! Thank-you Fred for being so wonderful and lovely to us, Sara loved her dress and looked amazing on the night!
Fantastic service, collection to choose from Fred and colleagues were engaged, supportive and fun to find my dress for an upcoming wedding of my partner’s daughter. I had a narrow window to do this and Modes staff responded quickly and efficiently to get me sorted. Great options, great suggestions and advice. Fred assisted me to locate shoe stores nearby which is very much appreciated. Can’t wait to share pics of the day with him and his colleagues. Do yourself a favour and book an appointment with this fabulous staff and service.
This is simply the best shop to find a trendy dress that has flair and a bit of glamour. I needed a dress for a wedding and had searched high and low in Auckland but found nothing that was trendy, fitting or glamorous. After five minutes at Modes I was spoilt for choice and ended up buying two dresses! One for the wedding and another go-to dress! Good range of prices too! I also bought accessories - bag, earrings etc and and they are making me a shoulder wrap from matching silk organza. Btw they also have a huge selection of little jackets and wraps to cover the arms that will go with anything! The staff are experienced, knowledgeable, helpful and know what you need. So great to deal with professional women who know about dresses, give good advice and are willing to go the extra mile to help without any pressure. Terrific secluded try-on area with huge mirrors. The selection is wide and amazing with designers like Moss&Sly, LauraK etc. Hard to tell from the outside that this is a real treasure house!
Fred at Modes is incredible. He was so kind and helpful when I took my fragile mother-in-law to buy a dress for my sons wedding. He chose just the right dresses for her to try, gave us a double changing room and a stool. I cannot recommend Fred and Modes highly enough. His professional advice is invaluable. Thank you Fred.

Ball dress shopping with my 16 year. I was nervous, she is 16 and is like many 16 year olds, navigating their first special occasion dress, wanting to feel beautiful and special. We could not have had a better experience. We were lucky enough to meet Fred straight away who was kind, welcoming, very experienced and gentle. He knew his stock and quickly established what she wanted. He has a huge range of beautiful gowns, all different styles and sizes. What made our experience stand out was that he had the skill of understanding the personality of the customer very quickly and within a couple of dress try ins we were struggling to decide. The huge smile gave it away. On site seamstresses to pin and tuck gives you the confidence that it will fit perfectly. A noticeable contrast from well meaning staff elsewhere who suggest “you can easily sort that at a tailor” when it’s not physically possible. We cannot rate our experience highly enough. Thank you.
