I have never been more disappointed with a local council than I am with Melton City Council. The lack of basic amenities, facilities, and infrastructure — especially in rapidly growing areas such as Deanside — is extremely disappointing considering the rates residents pay.nnThe growth of the area has clearly not been matched with the necessary infrastructure. Roads are narrow, parking is inadequate, and there appears to be very little forward planning to support the increasing number of residents. This is particularly noticeable around schools, where families are left with limited parking options and unsafe congestion due to poor design.nnInstead of addressing these issues by creating proper solutions such as designated school drop-off zones, off-street parking areas, and better road planning, the council appears to focus heavily on issuing parking fines to residents who are dealing with problems created by inadequate infrastructure. Residents should not be placed in a position where they are forced into difficult situations because basic planning requirements were not properly considered.nnWhat is even more disappointing is the lack of understanding and flexibility shown when residents attempt to explain their circumstances. In my case, I contacted Melton City Council and dealt with JC from the Internal Review Office regarding my parking infringement. I reached out expecting my situation to be fairly reviewed and for my side of the story to be genuinely considered. Unfortunately, I felt that my explanation was not properly listened to and that the review process focused more on defending the infringement decision rather than understanding the circumstances that led to it.nnA council should exist to support its community, listen to residents, and work towards practical solutions. When residents take the time to explain their situation, they should feel heard and respected rather than feeling like they are simply being processed through a system designed to uphold penalties.nnBeyond parking issues, the general maintenance of the area is extremely disappointing. Streets are often not cleaned properly, rubbish is left in public areas, grass mowing appears inconsistent, and footpaths are frequently overgrown with weeds. These are basic services that residents expect from their council, yet they continue to be neglected.nnThere are also many missed opportunities in the design of new developments. Large areas of nature strips and footpath spaces could have been better planned to include additional off-street parking solutions, especially in high-density areas where parking demand is obvious. Instead, residents are left struggling with narrow streets, limited parking, and increased enforcement.nnDeanside is growing rapidly, but the number of parks, recreational facilities, and community amenities has not kept pace with the population. New homes continue to be built, yet the supporting infrastructure needed to make these communities liveable appears to be falling behind.nnThe overall impression given is that enforcement and revenue collection are receiving more attention than improving the quality of life for residents. Instead of finding excuses to issue and uphold fines, the council should focus on creating value for the community through better planning, better maintenance, and meaningful investment in infrastructure.nnIn my experience, Melton City Council is the most disappointing council I have dealt with. Residents deserve a council that listens, plans properly, maintains public spaces, and treats people as members of the community — not simply as sources of revenue.
Absolutely the worst council in Victoria.nThe driver left my recycle bin half full and didn’t empty it properly. I called the council on Friday 3 July 2026 to report it. Their response was to do nothing and just tell me to wait for the next collection day. No accountability, no solution, and zero respect for ratepayers. Terrible service.
I had called the council to advise of an extension for a dog registration due to having a death in the family and needing to priorities funeral costs however the extension was only for a week- spoke with Bianca which was such a horrific experience despite my efforts to explain the circumstances, Bianca was extremely unprofessional, dismissive, and lacking in compassion. She proceeded to threaten that an infringement notice would be issued, despite being fully informed of our circumstances and my assurance that payment would be made. Furthermore, she repeatedly interrupted me and ended the call without allowing me to fully explain the situation. I found this treatment completely unacceptable. This is not the way members of the community should be spoken to, particularly when they are attempting to communicate openly and respectfully during a difficult personal circumstance.nI urge the council to investigate this matter and ensure staff are reminded of the importance of professionalism, empathy, fairness, and respectful communication when dealing with members of the public.
Don't contact Melton Council if you want to report any illegally parking as nothing will be done.It appears that the report will be taken over the phone and via email and the employees responsible for the department might even give it a once over however this is where it appears that any action that should take place very well ends. If the enquire gets to be a little more complicated then you are advised to call Victorian Police and even Vic Road. As mentioned council does Not want to deal with this matter..
I had a very positive experience with Melton City Council. Emma was extremely helpful—she listened carefully to my concerns and resolved the issue promptly. She was polite, professional, and efficient throughout the process.
