Beware, poor leadership within the school, they cant seem to be able to get drop off / pick up rosters correct, just seen 30 plus parents receive a parking fine, all because the school forces 100+ of parents to drop children off at the Mayer / Metro school gate, that has minimal LEGAL parking. School extremely inconsiderate to parents and residents.
Hello fellas! I love love love this school so much! anyways! At the moment F block is getting reworked and the students in some classes going to be in the one of the following, Japanese room, library, music room, I don’t know the 4th one. This school also holds an art competition every year that’s compulsory. Honouring a teacher who passed away. She loved art and she was an important teacher to this school. McDowall has very nice staff and students but every relief teacher who comes in will complain of all the noise all the classes make. This school also helps with landfill by something called “Eco warriors”. Eco warriors help with recycling plastics. Relating to that, they will hold a competition of who gives the “Eco warriors” the most recyclable plastics will earn a trophy presented to the whole year level and will be rotated every week or so. On another page, the uniforms are tartan uniforms which comes in a dress, and a shirt. They will also wear a polo shirt for sports it is mainly red, and it says “McDowall state school” around the collar. On Friday they will wear their house shirts depending on their houses, they will have different types of coloured shirts. Red= Grevilla. Yellow= Acacia. Green= Banksia. Blue = melaleuca. This school also holds Athletics which are normally hosted in June and there’s also cross country. This school mainly pays attention to music which students will get a form if they want an instrument or not [parents must choose] There’s also a choice to be a Non-instrumental student. McDowall is a large school with mainly containing 1000+ students. Overall very good school from my experience! Thanks for reading this hope this helps byee!
This used to be an amazing school until about 12/18 months ago. The school was strict and expected everybody to aim high and achieve high.. There is now a new principal and deputy whom have lower standards. We have seen great teachers leaving and now we are moving our children to a better school with better standards and teachers.
I’m from that school I graduated in 2019 I was so happy I graduated from McDowall state school and my name is Thomas.P. Golding
I went here for a few years from grade 2 to 5 but when I was there I’m in grade 8 now I was made to do grade 7-8 work. This actually caused my to have panic attacks which led to me having anxiety. Which I still have today. For my sister she was dyslexic and they didn’t pay any attention to her. When I was there they had groups for “smart people” which I was in and it was horrible. They also suspended two of my friends as one of them gave her 100 dollars but it was because the girl left it at his place when they were hanging out we were in grade 3 . I also remember the teachers not caring about bullying as I had this one bully and I told the teacher everytime and the teacher always said tell them to stop. I did. It never worked. There were some good experiences at that school though. I personally don’t think it was a good school but that’s just because I had mental breakdowns anytime I got a B as they teachers in the “smart people group” would be disappointed in me and make me feel worthless. I’m not sure if it’s changed or not, it could have but if your kids do complain about the school look into it please. Btw please do not let my opinion and experience affect your choice in going to this school.

Really very academic and have nice teachers. They care about each and every children. Their special support services are far very supportive for the children who have hard times and with disabilities. I really recommend McDowall SS.
Ms Henderson is great!! Best teacher ever!!
Highly discriminatory to people with disabilities. They deliberately force children with disabilities to leave the school through abusive treatment, inadequate support and lack of response. Do not send your child here if they have any kind of support needs.
