True excellence in service comes to the fore when a problem occurs.

I purchased a gold wedding band that needed to be re-sized. I believe I was told it would be ready the following Tuesday but, having not had a call to say it was ready, forgot about it until the next Tuesday when I called and was told it still wasn't ready. Another week passed and the jeweller had let them down again.

I dropped in a few days later. An incredibly helpful woman called the jeweller and said that she would personally go to his workshop, collect the item and deliver it to me at home that evening. This is above and beyond the call of duty.

I declined her kind offer since I don't believe the matter was urgent enough that an employee should do this after hours. Instead, we picked up the ring a day or two later.

When a problem comes along, even if it is a minor problem like this, the true test of customer service is how the staff react. In this case, it was brilliant.
