Martin might be a good mechanic but is incompetent in doing pre-purchase inspections. For me the most important part of this inspection is advice on the things a lay person cannot see. In my case he failed to identify that the floor was rotten in a 10-yr old boat otherwise appearing to be in tip-top condition, or indeed advise that there were clear tell-tale signs of earlier patch-up work. He refuses to take any responsibility, rather stating that he only provides "a general visual overview on the condition of the boat, trailer and engine". Not good enough! As a professional I expect more; I too can provide non-guaranteed "general visual inspections" and say tough luck when I get it wrong!

Martin did a great job on two small outboards I had with my tinny. He's always reliable, does a good job at a reasonable price. He keeps up to date with the new technology, too. I've sold my boat but will be back when I get another. Peter
