At the Mad Butcher we believe in quality meat at a great price – that’s why all our carcass beef and lamb is NZ Quality Mark certified, our carcass fresh pork is 100% NZ grown, and our chicken is supplied by New Zealand’s leading poultry brand: Tegel.
All meat is delivered to stores fresh each day, and cut and packed on site by skilled staff.
You can’t get much fresher than that!
In-store Master Butchers are available to cut meat to any requirement, along with providing advice on everything meat, from cooking to carving tips. We’re passionate about meat, and our friendly service will make every visit to the Mad Butcher a pleasure.

Have been coming to this place for a while. The food is generally of good quality, though sometimes I have seen some dodgy looking stuff. Staff handling meat without gloves, poorly packed stuff. The service is very hit and miss. Sometimes its good and sometimes the staff are quite rude.nnThey do have some good specials sometimes and there is a decent selection.
Lessons Learnt: Wifey bought lamb on a special. It looked okay until we opened it and cooked the meat. It was packaged in 2 layers. The hidden bottom layer was terrible. It had way more fat and bone than meat. The top layer that hid the bottom layer was mostly edible, but it was too thinly cut and it tasted like cardboard with a similar consistency.
Called in for cheap mince and wasn't disappointed. Grabbed some cheap sausages as well. Great service too.
This Mad Butcher discount franchise in Upper Hutt has some great deals for fresh and frozen meats. I brought a whole butterflied marinated chicken for $8 in a butter sauce and 1.5kg of NZ beef mince both much cheaper than the three local supermarkets.
Good meat deals, friendly staff. Love the cheap bundles of meat.
