About the Cinema

'Lake Cinema opened on Thursday 29th March 1974 with Show Boat and Singin' in the Rain; a grand double feature from MGM and two of my personal favourite films. The official opening was on Friday 30th March 1974 by Ald Geoff Pasterfield who was Mayor of the City of Lake Macquarie and we screened the Poseidon Adventure. Lake Cinema has undergone many refurbishments over the years and we are continually striving to enhance your movie going experience. The Cinema is available for fundraising activities and if we can help your group please contact us. I am very grateful for the assistance and effort from the dedicated team at the Cinema and the ongoing support of Lake Macquarie City Council. We look forward to welcoming you to Lake Cinema.'

Always enjoy ourselves when we go to the movies here; a touch of the old class and a great selection of the latest movies out, ones for the kids and the fan's favourites; all for a very good price that one hopes everyone can enjoy of $10! Make it a date for a great time out!
This darling little cinema is a step back in time but in all the right ways! Showing current movies that the bigger cinemas dismiss far too quickly. Don't be late for a showing though or you might miss out on a seat!!
This cinema in Lake Macquarie is a historical gem, with a great nostalgic feel, it's so important that we support hidden treasures like this, I have seen great flicks here that are never shown in mainstream cinema and the value for money and service is spot on. Long live lake cinema @ boolaroo!
