We popped in for supper, not knowing what to expect, and were blown away. Great food and first rate service. The staff happily accommodated the seven of us by moving tables around. The menu is authentic and moderately priced and our meals excellent. La baia is a great find and we will be back for more.

Fantastic restaurant, owners and staff!! We had a function here which was booked prior to opening. Gavin and Claudia were fantastic prior and on the day of the event. Food was delicious with a great view and all our guests agreed! Looking forward to dining again soon.

La Baia Bar Cucina is located in the heritage listed, and redeveloped, landmark Victoria Hotel (built in 1888) which is on the corner of Beaconsfield Parade and Kerford Road, Albert Park. We thought we'd try this cafe for lunch but unfortunately when we got there at just before mid-day it was closed and discovered that it doesn't open until 5pm on Tuesdays-Thursdays. However, we checked the menu which did look extensive and impressive with some interesting choices. It's billed as offering a delicious, authentic Italian cuisine but it seems that the chef has a passion for seafood. We will certainly come back and try it at another time. While the building has been redeveloped, it's great to see that the development has retained most of the original external structure and style. Built in the Victorian period, the old Victoria Hotel was built in a richly ornate Renaissance style, much along the same lines of the landmark Melbourne Town Hall and GPO buildings.
