Story

The last remaining of the art house cinema in Melbourne's CBD, the Kino Cinema is proud to offer an alternative to mainstream multiplex cinemas, by showing a mix of quality cinema, blockbusters, operas, special events, and film festivals. We further define ourselves by presenting this varied film offering in a luxurious, and stylish, sophisticated environment. All our cinemas are licensed throughout, and provide not only popcorn and soft drink; but also an extensive wine list, barista coffee, cheese and antipasto platters. Yes, you can take your drink in.

QUIRKY ALTERNATIVE CINEMA IN THE BASEMENT OF COLLINS PLACE The Kino is more an A'trhouse" cinema than a regular chain cinema and is tucked away in the lower level of Collins Place. There is a food court and shopping mall in the same space. Trams run right past on Collins Street. The cinema has relatively small theatres with comfortable seats. The main entry is via a staircase from the Collins Street ground floor foyer but there are also lifts for people with mobility issues. Toliets on site.
Perhaps not the cinema to watch an action movie. Watched the new Thor and at ~$19pp for members including a $1.70pp online booking fee it was almost as expensive as a usual cinema Jam factory vmax is $21.50 but the cinema 7 that was screening it was quite small. Plus there was a box kind of thing on the ceiling to the left which distracts you. Sound was average. Have watched a few movies here during COVID time at $5pp. hosts international film screenings which is good.
If you're a fan of the smaller cinematic experience, similar to the likes of Nova, Kino's your jam. With reflective prices and always discounted tickets, you do get a smaller screen with less immersive sound.
Depends on the cinema you go to I’ve been to cinema 1 which was bigger and better than cinema 7 Non recliner seats but they are comfortable Food wasn’t available both times since we’d been there after 8:30pm.. enjoyed with a glass of wine however :
My favorite cinema in the city. They have especial offer with sparkling wine, the staff is great! And the rooms have great screen, sound and comfy seats. It is a cinema part of place groups and have great discount on tickets. i love it!
Love the warm and cozy vibe of this cinema. Much better than the bigger theatres in the city.
Great to go back to the Kino. Fabulous venue for quality movies. ELVIS is the king.
I love this cinema. It is tucked away inside Collins Place where there is a great food court to stave off hunger before or after seeing a film. The cheese platter hit the spot in between watching two Italian movies for IFF22. Don’t forget to look up and admire the glass ceiling!
As a veteran of the cinema industry both as an employee and a punter the one thing I find consistent about Palace cinemas is their lack of meaningful customer service even compared to Hoyts and GU. This cinema is modest with smaller cinemas suitable for art house, rom coms, dramas and the like, I would not come here to see a blockbuster action film and I wouldn’t come here to have your customer service expectations exceeded.
Going to this cinema was a great experience, however what made it was one staff member who had an impressive knowledge of film.
