Saw a movie last night 2/1/25, purchased popcorn, drinks & ice cream, served by Chloe R, extremely unfriendly and lacked basic customer service, was abrupt when I asked her a question, didn't even look at me and couldn't wait to walk away after serving us. Staff member who greeted us to check our tickets for the movie smiled and was courteous and polite. Basic customer service is not hard.
Extremely disappointed in my Hoytes Belconnen experience.nnWent and saw nosferatu today at 8:15. Popcorn was stale and cold.nnWalking into the theatre, it was not clean and bin was overflowing. Got to my seat which also had popcorn on it. Given the price of movie tickets plus food for 2 people being $75 I would expect the theatre to at least be reasonably clean.nnEven though the film was rated R it was clear that staff were not checking ages of some of the views as it was clear there were literal children in the back of the cinema. They were very disruptive in talking and making sex noises. Members of the public told them to be quiet. At one point they bounced a ball mid-movie.nnDo better.
Reclining chairs are nice to have but the chairs we were sitting in were revolting they were sticky with either food or drink spilled and was not cleaned up thoroughly. Chairs and armrests should be disinfected and wiped down properly before the next session. I don’t want my nice clean clothes to be dirty from sitting in those chairs.nnThe picture quality is not that great and seems quite dim and should be a lot sharper and brighter. It also seems slightly out of focus which can be uncomfortable to watch.
I'm here to call out how utterly insane the pricing in the snack bar is! In what world dowles a large box of popcorn and 2 large drinks cost $34?!?!?! This stuff would cost less than $2 for ingredients and packaging and the rest is pure greed. I'm bringing my own drinks and snacks from now on, convenience is not worth that markup!!!!
Coming to Australia from overseas, i was concerned about what the quality for cinemas would be like, but i found solace in HOYTS theatres.nnYes, a night out to the movies is not cheap anymore by any means. So I won't say that a trip here is cheap. But i do believe it is the best cinema experience in Canberra.nnThe cinemas sacrifice seat numbers to allow every seat to be a spacious electronic recliner. The only danger is getting too comfortable and dozing off. But this is not an easy thing to do with the state of the art sound system that you can feel while you watch.nnThe dbox cinema is a fun experience every once in a while!nnThe popcorn is usually good, and the snack and beverage choices are good. A ben and jerrys is also in the lobby and is delicious. They also have a liquor licence and small cafe that can deliver food and drinks to your seat before and during the movie.nnOverall, i love hoyts and will continue to support their business.
