Our last day of operating in the house will be Sunday, 20 November 2022.The retail shop and gardens will not be affected by this closure and will remain open. Dining at Herenswood Cafe was a wonderful experience. We reserved the room, pictured, and indulged in first rate meals and the service was outstanding. Lovely view from the windows and a stroll in the gardens after lunch was most looked forward to, and didn't disappoint. A trip to the shop found me exactly what I wanted, a large bowl that now sits under a tree in my garden, a nice memory of a relaxing, pleasant afternoon.
We booked, and sat inside on a hot day, we felt it was cooler there than under the umbrellas outside. Lunch was excellent- I had the hot-smoked salmon, and a rhubarb soda. Loved it - booking is a good idea. You can visit here without visiting the garden for which there’s a fee but do pay and see the garden, it’s gorgeous, and you’ll see where some of your food came from! Better, join Diggers Club and visit regularly.
Regularly eat here. Food is incredibly high standard, very fresh. Service outstanding and location brilliant. I like being able to sit outside.
Beautiful, peaceful gardens all year round but especially in Autumn. A stunning view of the ocean. The staff are very helpful and exude the peace of Heronswood.Food: 5/5
Beautiful establishment. Although one could argue the food is a bit pricey, it is reasonable to expect it considering its origin ingredients are sourced locally or from the gardens themselves. In addition, the food is delicious.
A lovely place to get lost in the garden and the food.Food: 5/5
One of my favorite places to BE, the restaurant is now in the old house & takes u back to times gone past, outside eating is magical, the food is well thought out & reasonably priced & the service is with a smile. A stroll through the magnificent landscape is only second to the stunning views of our gorgeous bay.
Food is pretty tasty, smalllllll portions for cost. Very disorganized staff. Took about 45 minutes after ordering for food to arrive. This was a booked table as well. It was soup in a cup and a salad.
Trish at the Cafe made our visit to Heronswood incredible. It was 2:55pm, and our day seemed gloomy, having not eaten yet, and arrived to Heronswood Cafe 5 minutes before close. Expecting to be turned away since the sign read 'closed' and they were packing up, we asked the staff if there was anything plant-based that we could order. They kindly allowed us to take a seat, and served up bread with dips and a pudding. Both were good, but my partner couldn't eat much of it being gluten-intolerant. As soon as Trish the chef realised this, she whipped up a super delicious salad that really made our day this is not on the menu, and is usually served to staff on breaks. Trish's kindness was so greatly appreciated, and we think that the menu should incorporate Trish's staff salad creation, along with more plant-based dishes. Given that it's a gardeners Cafe, fresh whole-food plant-based produce should be the hero of the menu! Thanks, Trish.
Friendly service, beautiful setting location. Pumpkin risotto was lacking pumpkin and had an interesting zest of orange. Heirloom veggies were nice with the goats cheese. Would be nice to have the starters first, and then the mains, which is not what have happened.
