Just call up to book beds/rooms - bring cash as they don’t have eftposnVery quiet place, I felt a little uneasy as a solo young female traveller but I’m sure it would be good with people you know.nHas a large kitchen facility and you are given a bag of plates and cutlery to use and take care of.nCosts $10 extra for a blanket/duvet so if you bring your own sleeping bag you can avoid thisnNice living area with good couches and tables.nPlugs were limited in the room I was innClose to beach, easy 5min walknHave attached room prices :
This was the worst hostal I've been so far in New Zealand, with that said, the reason of the two stars reviews come from.nnYou cannot book online and I remember waiting until night to see the lady that runs the hostal.nnThen your space or room is always shared with different people and she might get you the wrong keys.nnIn addition, if you are willing to stay for longer periods you will be paying now 140$ per week, ONLY CASH which is really annoying too.nnAnd finally the worst point is about cleaning everything is very messy, cover in oxide and the kitchen utensils were not the best.
I really loved my experience at the Flying Nun! I am sad to see so many negative reviews - this place is a massive operation run by a single hard-working woman who does SO MUCH work to keep it afloat. It is easily the cheapest accommodation you'll find in Gisborne, and if that is not enough to sell you, the long-term international residents are all lovely, welcoming, warm people.nOur room was clean, we had bedsheets and pillows, and things like kitchenware and cutlery were all provided.nI'm happy that I made the call to come here despite a number of bad reviews. I'm sure that when I'm in town next I will have to visit this place again.
Definitely my least favorite hostel since arriving in NZ. You have to pay extra for bedding. Extra for bowls and eating utensils. Fairly dirty flys everywhere and chunks of crust on my sheets.
People staying there were awesome. Facilities and staff .... another story. This place had a fly infestation, cockroach in my room. In general not a clean place. To be honest the staff were not friendly felt more like we were a hassle than welcome. Could definitely be stepped up.
