Absolutely fabulous. My wife and I really enjoyed the train ride and hearing the history made it even better. Appreciated the driver who was efficient, kept all safe and dropped in great Dad jokes along the way. She kept on track so well!nThe bush was beautiful and we learned some fascinating facts, which was a bonus. Highly recommend this experience!
My mom and I had such a wonderful experience on the rail trip! It was like a journey through a hidden world of trees and plants we'd never seen before. The $39 adult ticket was totally worth it. We set off around 1:30 pm and immediately noticed the beautiful clay products around the site, perfect for souvenirs or just admiring.nnAs we chugged along, we couldn't help but notice how slowly we were moving upward. It wasn't until the small stops for the operator to switch positions that we realized we were climbing to a higher latitude. And wow, the view from the top was breathtaking! Seeing Coromandel city sprawled out below was just incredible.nnMy mom was particularly amazed by the ancient trees we passed. The operator was a real gem, sharing loads of fascinating history about the area throughout the journey. At the end, he even showed us a leaf that looked silver underneath but green on top when held up to the light. We would've missed that little detail if he hadn't pointed it out!nnThe staff at the front desk were also super friendly and helpful, explaining everything with a smile. Overall, it's definitely worth a try if you want to experience a charming old railway ride with some seriously stunning views.
Reconnect with nature and yesteryear with a truly unique Coromandel experience. This attraction is great value for money and you get to experience one man’s passion for rail and restoring the land back to native bush and his kiwi can do attitude and ingenuity. Starring a man called Barry.
Why haven’t you been here yet? What a fascinating place with an amazing story behind it. Interesting for me as an artist and my husband loved the engineering. Then there is the beautiful bush scenery and the views over Coromandel Township all the way to Auckland. We were pleased to see a mix of locals and tourists on the train. Take your camera, and an extra layer as it is cooler in the bush at this time of the year. Autumn. Very reasonably priced too!
We had our 94-year-old mother with us. Everyone was very helpful. Weather was not the best but the views more than made up for that. Definitely recommend in fact already have - my daughter and her family will be in NZ next year and will go and see Driving Creek Railway
