Great pub this one. It has a limited selection of beers if you are after a full bar of boutique beers. It has your standard selection with friendly bar staff, which is good for me. The beer garden is relaxed, the service fast and the food is fresh, quality pub fare. I dont get to Dick's Hotel often, but I always enjoy it when I do, and whenever I'm in Balmain I will find an excuse to have a quiet ale or 2 at Dick's
Great little spot tucked away in Balmain. Really warm atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was delicious and the beers are cold .nnWill be back to try something else on the menu.
I visited Dick’s Hotel in Balmain the other weekend with some friends, and unfortunately, four of us ended up with food poisoning. We ordered a mix of meals, including chicken parmigiana, steak, and tacos. The steak arrived surprisingly fast—within about five minutes—which seemed a little off, but we didn’t think much of it at the time. Some of my friends who also had a parmigiana didn’t get sick, so it’s unclear whether the issue was food that had been left out too long or possible cross-contamination in the kitchen.nnThe next day, I called the hotel to report what happened and requested a refund. I was told the manager would call me back the following day, but after waiting two days without a response, I followed up again. When I finally spoke to the manager, she was apologetic and mentioned she had spoken with the owners. However, rather than a refund, they offered a bottle of wine as a goodwill gesture. While I appreciate the offer, it didn’t feel like an appropriate resolution given that four of us became ill after dining there.nnWhen I politely declined and reiterated my request for a refund, I was told they don’t issue refunds due to concerns that some people try to take advantage of the policy. While I understand their position, it was disappointing to feel like our experience wasn’t fully acknowledged. The manager assured me they checked that everything in the fridge was in date, but food safety goes beyond expiry dates—it includes storage, handling, and kitchen hygiene.nnIf you’re planning to eat here, I’d recommend being mindful of their food safety practices. While the staff were apologetic, the overall handling of the situation could have been much better.
We held a function in the upstairs rooms for 55 people and had an absolutely wonderful time! We served finger food, had an open bar and set up a dance floor. All the staff were wonderful- the food was delicious and we spent far less than we had budgeted. Highly recommended and we can’t wait to hold our next function at Dicks Hotel!
We held my daughter’s 21st in the upstairs space at DiCKS last night and the guests raved about the venue, the service and the food. The pre-party organising was so easy and the team at Dicks were flexible and accommodated everything we wanted. We had around 80 guests and there was plenty of great food at very reasonable prices. Every staff member I interacted with were exceptional, particularly Joe and the bar staff last night who were incredible. Will definitely use the venue again and would highly recommend.
