Books that actually make you smarter, rowdy movie nights, rockin' open mic events, nobody has more fun than us.

Regular writers workshops, open mic nights, theatre, tarot, the occasional life drawing, an annual 'Howl' event with Manly Jazz Festival, as well as the annual event 'Poetry Melody Desire' with Manly Arts Festival.

We would love you to connect with our creative events & workshops more.

The space is also available to hire for creatives, and we hold 'book launches', 'EP launches' and the like regularly.

OPEN MIC

Bonfire at Desire is the monthly open mic night at Desire Books in Manly. People share their poems, stories, songs, performance art, wisecracks and hearts with total abandon! You should too!

Last Tuesday of the month, from 7 until we collapse.

WRITERS WORKSHOP

Writers Rumble - Third Thursday Monthly 7-9pm

Writers' Rumble is a good old fashioned writing group, hosted by Sid Walls, Katy B Plummer and Andy Franks, on the third Thurdsay of every month. Prose, poetry & plays.

Bring 6-8 copies of something you're working on, and the group will kindly-yet-thoroughly polish your baby till it shines like the moon.

$10 to keep the shop afloat.
Guidance and lit crit skillz generously donated by Sid.
There is usually wine. It's how we roll.

HOWL - MANLY JAZZ FESTIVAL - ANNUAL

The Six Gallery reading (also known as the Gallery Six reading or Six Angels in the Same Performance) was a poetry-reading which occurred at the Six Gallery on Friday, October 7, 1955, at 3119 Fillmore Street in San Francisco. It was the night that Allen Ginsburg unleashed 'HOWL' on an unsuspecting world.
Desire Books celebrates the anniversary of the poetry event that shook the world with a night of Jazz, Poetry and all kinds of Beatnik madness.
So head on over to Desire and check out all the crazy cats and hipsters - Ya Dig!

MELODY POETRY DESIRE

As part of the Manly Arts Festival, Desire Books curate an afternoon of the best Live Music, Poetry and Spoken Word that Manly can offer.

Following on from the spirit of our monthly open mic night 'Bonfire at Desire', Desire is throws its doors open to musicians, poets and spoken word artists.



THEATRE

7 Minutes to Midnight Theatre Co. is based on Sydney's Northern Beaches and is dedicated to writing and performing new works and revisiting classic works.
