Coles in Canberra Centre offers a convenient shopping experience in the heart of the city. The store is brightly lit and has an open, crescent-shaped layout. It's a large, modern supermarket with a wide selection of products, including fresh fruit and vegetables delivered daily, an in-store bakery, and a new-look delicatessen featuring gourmet cheeses, an olive bar, and an expanded fresh seafood section. An open meat counter with butchers provides a slice-on-request service.nnWhile some shoppers miss the unique and local products previously offered by Supabarn, which Coles now occupies, others appreciate the familiar Coles offerings and the retention of some Supabarn staff. Some customers have expressed disappointment over the standardization of gourmet cheese selections and the disappearance of local producers like Poachers Pantry and Pialligo Smokehouse. However, Coles has stated they've worked with local suppliers to stock locally-made products and welcome suggestions from customers.nnOne last note from a traveling customer from overseas, the prices as most in Australia will seem high on most products and over priced on others. This seems to be in general across most stores in Australia.
Terrible service.nStore was closed prior to closing time, meaning I could not enter to pick up an order at Liquorland that was already completed and packed.nHaving worked in retail myself, I understand the desire to go home on time however it was genuinely a 30 second walk to get my order and give it to me.
I visited Coles Canberra Centre today and picked up some items marked as half-price. While at the checkout, I overheard another customer questioning a staff member about a pricing issue. The customer pointed out that the sign showed a discounted price, yet they were charged full price. Instead of addressing the issue, the staff simply stated that the discount would only apply from tomorrow, even though the promotional sign was already displayed today.nnHearing this, I immediately removed the discounted items from my cart to avoid the same problem. It was frustrating to realize that I had spent time selecting items under false impressions. The staff took no responsibility for the confusion, which made the experience even worse.

Upon going to the self checkout I was swarmed by overzealous staff, at least three telling me I couldn’t use the checkout I was at. When I asked why I was told t had to scan the toilet paper first if I stayed there, which I did. Still don’t know why. I assume because they thought I’d steal it. They still weren’t happy that I was staying at this checkout and told me there was a checkout with a person who would scan for me so to stop them unhappily hovering around me I agreed. I prefer that anyway and hadn’t been able to find a serviced checkout. Turns out it wasn’t your typical checkout where you put items on the conveyor but was a miniature checkout which was smaller than the checkout I was at originally. The young girl stacking my shopping bags had to store my shopping bags around her feet on the floor as the space was so small. When I asked her if she knew why I’d been pressured to move to her checkout she said her supervisor had told her to check my items. Never in my 57 years have I experienced treatment like this at any shop anywhere. It was terrible customer service where I felt like I was an annoying potential thief. Why at least one of the milltuple people in the checkout area couldn’t have opened one of the full size checkout counters instead of harassing customers and being extremely unpleasant is beyond me. My son has just moved to Canberra for his first job and safe to say we will NEVER visit this Coles supermarket again. Having to pay for parking at the end topped off the horrible experience. Do better.
