Story

Recently renovated and now voted one of the TOP 10 HOSTELS in Australia, the Civic Guest House is a friendly charming hostel in the heart of Townsville offering clean, safe and cosy accommodation for the budget conscious traveller. Free Wi-Fi and a friendly service is what we consider a must. We also offer free transport to/from the Ferry and Greyhound bus terminal 4 times a day (10am, 11am, 2pm and 7pm).

Our aim is to provide our guests with a comfortable and quiet place to stay in a relaxed and friendly environment. You can chill out in the lounge room, prepare a meal in our large communal kitchen, or have a game of chess in the new game room.

Conveniently located in a quiet street close to Townsville's CBD, The Civic Guest House Backpackers Hostel gives you a broad choice of room options ranging from shared dorms to private double rooms with ensuite.

A Hidden Gem in Townsville!nI had an incredible stay at Civic Guest House. The staff were warm, friendly, and went out of their way to make me feel at home. The rooms and shared areas were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. I especially appreciated the quiet, relaxed vibe and the strong sense of community among guests. The kitchen was spacious and well-equipped, and the free shuttle to the bus station was a huge bonus. Great location—close to shops, restaurants, and The Strand. Highly recommended for any backpacker or traveler looking for affordable, quality accommodation in Townsville!
Clean, comfy single/double rooms with fridge and aircon. Super friendly helpful staff. Large outdoor swimming pool, resort style. Everything included, kitchen, TV room, outdoor space, luggage storage. Cheap and highly recommended. Thanks for a great stay in Townsville.
Paid a deposit through Hostelworld, they cancelled my booking 2 hours before arrival nnResponse: Do not book here if you need a safe place to stay!nnThe non-refundable deposit I paid should secure my booking. Why take a reservation if you can't keep my reservation? I was planning on paying with my Australia credit card on arrival, because Hostelworld terms are: pay at property on arrival. Lucky I have a friend in Townsville, imagine you did this to traveler who has nowhere to stay.nYou have disregarded your duty of care to your patrons. You should be ashamed.
Fantastic hostel! bedrooms and bathrooms were all clean and spacious. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is not as close to the strand or flinders as some other hostels but is still walking distance to everything. The pool is a huge bonus too. I can highly recommend Civic guesthouse to any traveller. Cheers!
Mum in her 80s and myself were there 2 years ago for a few days. We were there Australia Day. Fantastic entertainment in the harbour all day. Was relaxing. Cleaned everyday. Some backpackers did not clear up after themselves, we watched everyday the staff clearing the kitchen ready for people to use another day if people cleared up after themselves the staff could be doing other things . The rooms were small and basic but what more do you need. Its on different levels. The staff helped with bags up the stairs. The seating area was lovely. If I was going back again to Townsville both my mum would stay. The staff were helpful. It was reasonable price for a taxi.
