Story

Cataract on Paterson is a blend of classic interiors with a modern twist! We offer one of Launceston’s most unique dining venues. Centrally located on the edge of the CBD, the venue boasts industrial design paired with contemporary cuisine, casual polished service and an elegant yet quirky charm that crafts a dining experience unlike any other.

Our emphasis is to highlight Tasmanian food products, produce superior flavours and offer our guests sincere value. We proudly support Tasmanian farmers by sourcing our produce from a variety of local producers and farm gate outlets.

We are home to the Stonegrill dining experience! Stonegrill is a new, exciting & unique interactive dining experience that presents your meal cooking on a 400°C volcanic stone at your table. The unique method & high temperature, sears in all the natural juices & nutrients, enhancing the full flavours & tenderness of your meal. Stonegrill is internationally recognised as one of the healthiest methods of cooking, as all produce is completely trimmed of fats & no added oils are used. Your meal will remain hot & enjoyable, allowing you to dine at leisure, with every bite as hot & delicious as the first as the stone remains very hot for approx. 35 minutes & hot for over an hour.

We are open for dinner 7 nights per week from 5.00pm until late and lunch Friday and Sunday from 12 noon. Reservations are highly encouraged.

We visited Cataract on Paterson as a group while on a work trip and had a fantastic experience. We arrived quite late, after 8 pm, without a reservation, and were seated without any issue, which we really appreciated.nnThe food was outstanding, beautifully presented, full of flavour, and consistently impressive across the table. The seafood in particular was excellent, and everything felt well thought out and well executed. The atmosphere was warm, stylish and relaxed, making it a really enjoyable place to spend the evening.nnWhat stood out most was how welcoming and accommodating the team was, even later in the evening and without a booking. Great food, great service, and a genuinely lovely experience. We’d happily return.

We just came for desserts and we definitely weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and the Christmas-themed desserts were sensational. Every ingredient and texture perfectly balanced and you could tell that a lot of care and thought went into both the design and execution of the dish. A wonderful experience and definitely would recommend C/P.

We visited Launceston hoping to enjoy some fantastic food, but unfortunately the dishes were very disappointing. We ordered the Paddock to Platter, which was supposed to be delicious, but what we received was burnt and bitter. I requested medium-well, but does that mean the food should be charred and taste bitter? The cabbage salad was also extremely bitter.nnI ordered a mango & passionfruit daiquiri, and it was overwhelmingly sweet—almost like eating sugar with a hint of mango. I had to ask for a large glass of water just to dilute it, and even then the sweetness was still too strong. The only dish that tasted good was the abalone.nnOverall, I do not recommend the food there. I can’t speak for the other dishes, but after experiencing such a disappointing first meal—especially at a price that wasn’t cheap $139 in total—I will not return. It was far too expensive for that level of taste. It should have been much, much better.

We had dinner here yesterday. We managed to catch a table without a booking. Enjoyed the oyster and scollaps entree with pork ribs mains.nnIt was such a pleasant evening we booked in again tonight. Enjoyed the char grilled porterhouse and shared the best ever cream brulee.nnThe setting felt like we had our own personal room.nnThe service was amazing, the communication between the wait staff and the runner staff was impressive. They did not miss a beat.nnThis all added to our experience at the gorge on Launceston

The service is very high standard. Very friendly, efficient and staff were so helpful with all our requests. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Absolutely superb food. Presentation was excellent and we will return.
