Oh HELLO Capers… where have you been hiding? nnFrom the outside? Humble. Low-key. Blink-and-you’d-miss-it vibes.nInside? Retro joy bomb with seriously good food.nnHow has this not hit my foodie radar before?!nnSix of us rolled in on a Tuesday night, just as the balmy summer finally exhaled after weeks of relentless heat. A little drizzle, a little relief, and the perfect excuse to gather. I’d booked highly recommend, choosing the garden space out the back, and was quietly thrilled to discover it’s fully undercover. Rain falling, glasses clinking, foliage overhead. Funky light fittings casting 70’s vibes. Win.nnNow let’s talk décor.nnWalking in felt like stepping straight back into my Greek friends’ homes growing up, in the best possible way. Orange glassware. Familiar plates. Teak laminate tables. Those practical, comfy chairs that say, “Stay. Eat more.” Add mood lighting, nostalgic tunes and leafy garden energy and you’ve got something curated with finesse and heart. Whoever styled this place? Bravo. You nailed it.nnThe format is relaxed and unfussy. Come as you are no ironing required. Order and pay at the bar, then settle in while the kitchen works its magic. The menu isn’t huge, just the way I like it. Do a few things. Do them well.nnSo we did what any sensible group of six would do… we ordered eight entrées and three mains. Research purposes only, obviously.nnVerdict? All good. Plates arriving, disappearing, passing hands across the table. The kind of food that encourages conversation and second forks. We left with full bellies and zero regrets.nnSpecial mention to Eliza, our waitress, who juggled us with grace, humour and ease. Staff like that make a night.nnThis is exactly why I’m #thewanderingreviewer. It’s the serendipitous discoveries, the places that don’t scream for attention but quietly deliver. Whole food. Good service. Comfortable nostalgia. A night that feels easy.nMegálosnn@thewanderingreviewer @capers.thornbury #capersthornbury #tripadvisorreviewer #googlelocalguidereviewjer
This restaurant is excellent. We had a late dinner there on a Friday night. The food is excellent, and it has a great atmosphere and seems to be always busy. We will definately be back.
Cozy little bar in the heart of Thornbury with a limited menu and good atmosphere. The DJs and music were great but it was a bit difficult to order drinks at the register/bar due to the set up. Lovely courtyard at the back with seating though but the front section was hard to navigate through.
Everything was immaculate. Food, drinks, service, vibes 10/10. Would recommend to strangers on the street.
What a gem! I honestly can’t believe I haven’t heard more people talking about Capers. It’s been sitting on my list for ages—so long that I couldn’t even remember why I saved it. But after finally visiting, I left full, happy, and very impressed.nnI’ve unintentionally been on a Greek restaurant streak lately, and Capers has absolutely earned its place among the best. There are so many things I loved about this spot, starting with the interiors. It’s like stepping into your yiayia and papou’s house—every corner is filled with nostalgic charm. From the retro cabinets near the bar to the eclectic knick-knacks, the space feels like a beautifully curated homage to old-school Greek homes. It’s clear that every detail—from the cutlery to the furniture—has been thoughtfully chosen to reflect the concept, even if it looks like someone just raided their grandparents’ house in the best way possible.nnThe mood lighting and casual vibe make it the kind of place where you could rock up in Ugg boots and no one would bat an eye. The staff were super laid-back, in a good way—attentive without being overbearing. You order and pay at the bar, which worked perfectly for a relaxed night out. No waiting around for the bill, just eat, chill, and head home when you’re ready.nnThe menu is small but mighty—which I loved because everything sounded amazing. If it were any bigger, I’d be overwhelmed. We ordered the Toursi pickled veg, Dolmathes, Patates, Spanakorizo, and the Giovesti with mushroom and tomato a special that night. Every dish was hearty, flavourful, and packed with the kind of warmth that brings back memories of my grandparents’ cooking.nnLittle places like Capers are exactly what I love discovering—humble, delicious, and full of soul. I’ll definitely be back.
