BIG DOG Definitely the alpha dog of sandwich joints in Melbourne. I've tried Salumnisti and Hector's deli. And Big Dog takes the cake 10/10. If you get get the classic "Big dog" sandwich you will be greeted with: 1. The crispiest and freshest ciabatta 2. Perfectly balanced harmony of cured meats and lettuce 3. A satisfied stomach. It's one of those sandwiches that doesn't blow you away on the first bite, but as you eat into it, you start to appreciate it for what it is. If you're after the most sophisticated sandwiches, come here!
Again on a mission to find a rueben sandwich that i want to love.... guess what? I found one! They call it the captain! What a sandwich! Ofcourse I asked for extra pastrami and I'm glad I did. Never had pastrami cut this thick but It was juicy, it was soft, it was full of flavour and it was damn delicious!! Perfect amount of every single ingredient! Also decided to try the eggplant parmigiana sandwich... Yuuum! The smell that came from this sandwich when placed at the table was amazing! Soft crumbed eggplant, beautiful cheese and toasted bread. What a winner and a great option if you dont want meat. Staff were very accommodating, even helped with the kids options which aren't on the menu. Restaurant is pretty small so to try get in early. Don't change a thing guys, everything was perfect!!!!!! Actually left talking about it the whole afternoon.
Went to try their famous Big Dog Parma but it turns out their Piggy Wiggy was waaay more delicious. Very savoury, crispy yet juicy pork. Highly recommended.
Wow! Got The Captain and eggplant parmigiana. Both were incredible. The pastrami was amazing, super tender and juicy. Highly recommend. The courtyard was very cute.
The best. Honestly, in terms of pastrami sandwiches it's all I ate, I think he's guys are untouchable. Meats all smoked in-house. Limited hours but worth getting to if you can!
Easily one of the best sandwich shops in Melbourne. Super friendly staff and thicc sangas that always taste 10/10. Best eggplant parma I’ve ever eaten. Love u big dogs!!
If a place has a menu item named for the place, you want it to be pretty good, luckily The Big Dog at Big Dog's lives up to expectations
Finally a decent Reuben in Melbourne. The pastrami had a delicious, smoky flavour with succulent crisp edges and complemented perfectly the sauce and kraut combination. The Rye was crunchy and fresh. I was impressed by the volume of meat. Fair for the price, but there could have been slightly more. The sandwiches here seem to be slightly more generous than Hector's Deli. BD Deli is a strong competitor, for sure.
A well known deli shop in Richmond that serves simple menu but yum and amazing sangas. Came in there today to try their Captain’s, Big Dogs, Buck Beef and Parma. Those sandwich is worth every penny we spent. Their Big Dogs is full of flavor from their prosciutto and salami and house dressing. The Parma is so rich with well cooked eggplant that so tasty. The Buck Beef is delicate and juicy with their rare beef, almost taste like eating burger. The Captains is a must try sandwich there, all round best sanga. Oh don’t forget to try their house crisp potato too. Smile and lovely hospitality from their owner, Jenta making this shop will surely be missed. Five stars for BIG DOGs family!!
A nice little sandwich restaurant tucked into an old house. The store has a nice setting, especially the outdoor dining area out the back. They've got fairy lights hanging which will look beautiful at night. I had the KFC burger which was a little disappointing. The chicken was too small in comparison to their bun. And there wasn't enough crunch for a fried chicken. The captain pastrami sandwich is far more tasty. Its toasted to perfection allowing it to have a crunch and filled with the correct ratio of meat. I wouldn't bother with the potato crisp - especially for the price. Also the mac and cheese is average - not worth it.
