I'm really glad I visited here. There was a lot of information about New Zealand, the Maori, the war, etc. It's a great place for children's education and for tourists from overseas.nnSome booths were closed which was sad but they offered discounts for the ticket.nnThanks all of you who work here!! From Japan
The Auckland War Memorial Museum is an impressive and huge museum, definitely not a place to rush. You’ll need at least half a day to explore it properly, as there’s an enormous amount to see, from history and culture to fascinating exhibitions.nnSome sections are wonderfully interactive, which makes the experience more engaging and enjoyable, especially for younger visitors. It’s also a great spot for kids, with plenty to spark their curiosity while still being educational.nnOverall, it’s a must visit in Auckland, enriching, welldesigned, and well worth the time
5/5 Highly Recommend this place for Families to visit 2hours and then picnic on the grass outside. A very educational place for kids and adults to learn and explore. It is free to NZ citizens and affordable for those living outside NZ.nAll the staff are knowledgeable when asking questions. We visited here this year in Jan 2026. We will be back again!!
Very large and interesting history of the new zealand wars and throughout the wars that new Zealand has participated. There is a Maori exhibit that was closed for Reno's. But I only had 2 hours to whisk through. Could have spent a lot more time here. But I really wanted to see what I thought was the highlight, an original Mitsubishi zero on display, a rare aircraft for aircraft afficiandos. There is also a V1 flying bomb. Also an earthquake simulator that was fun and a bit scary at the same time. To be exterior of the building is a sight to see in itself. Beautiful parks surrounding on a hill overlooking the city.
Twilight Rooftop Tour. A well hidden gem. The twilight tour is run every Tuesday @ 6pm. The historical importance of the museum cannot be underestimated and our guide provided an excellent background and overview of the building and The Domain fun fact..there is only one native tree planted in The Domain and it was planted by the granddaughter of the 1st Maori King. The vistas are stunning and the building an architectural masterpiece. It certainly exceeded my expectations.
