Auckland War Memorial Museum

A fabulous place to visit and a must see whilst you are in Auckland. This is one of the stops on the Hop on/Hop off bus tour. The architecture of the building is impressive, we behaved like tourists and took lots of pics outside before we entered the museum. The museum exhibits are interesting and varied from all era's of history. I believe there are also libraries and resources available if you are wanting any additional knowledge. The staff are also extremely helpful, providing warm and friendly customer service. They were lovely to the children we had travelling in our group who were full of questions about Maori history and culture. A great experience.

We attended the 11am ANZAC Day service here. It was so wonderful and poignant. A little bit different to the Australian ceremonies we've attended. The conch shell was blown and the women sang a song (I think to welcome home the warriors?). The service was in Maori and English. We would recommend you attend a service here if you get a chance.

This is one of Auckland's best assets. The exhibits are well presented and there is something to interest all age groups. A great day out for the family whatever time of the year. Regular extra exhibitions too. Excellent Cafe

Its been a few years since my last visit. I skipped the main halls, because nothing seems to have changed. The war exhibitions on the top floor were good but seemed aimed at Kids with gimmicky interactive displays. It was good to see that patrolling staff did quieten down a couple of noisy kids. A lot of effort has gone in to many of the displays, but some of spaces they are displayed in are too small.

Kids loved it and we had a good day. Lego display was brilliant and the kids loved creating pyramids from Lego. Cafe had great food and service. Thought the Maori show was overpriced. My husband never got to see it as he spent an hour finding parking and the Museum wouldn't refund his ticket price. The underground parking was full but no sign up outside advising that, so cars had to reverse out of the lineup.
