Sensational! This building is an architectural gem. Then there's the aircraft inside! The Lancaster bomber is my favourite but there are plenty of other historical aircraft. My son especially enjoys the Harvard hanging up by the mezzanine area. Very good toilets at the far end of the hangar. Motat live days are brilliant here and the place really comes alive. It's different every time but generally you'll get a chance to ride in an armoured vehicle, hear songs from the world wars sung live, ride the steam train, see the guys restoring the planes etc.

New facility in a large hangar with huge collection of planes from different eras. Displays all around the edges on interesting subjects, including military history, navy and early aviation history. Staff were friendly, and it was very handy being able to catch the tram to and from the main MOTAT site (included with ticket).

Great displays with more arranged than I expected to see in there. Especially good to see some of the very rare planes like the Sunderland that they are starting to restore. I will definitely go back on a live day (3rd Sunday of the month) when the military displays are open. Free tram ride to the main museum and entrance to the main museum included in the ticket price.

Great facility, some very cool historical planes, really good on lives days. The expanded hangar is a nice temperature in summer and a place to go out of the sun. On the live days, take a ride on a M113 or Bren Carrier if you can, it's a ball, but hang on tight, not for the faint hearted at all. The costumers that do the battle re-enacting are a really good enthusiastic bunch, that may even let children hold certain items if asked nicely.

Historic and amazing site which holds a very important snapshot of New Zealand's history. While there aren't a lot of aircraft or displays what few they do have here are quote often extremely rare. For example 1 of 4 Sutherland aircraft and the beautiful Lancaster bomber. Would be good if they improved the airflow I to this building as it can get extremely hot and makes visitors want to leave quickly rather than taking in everything. While hot, its a unique and beautiful venue with the lighting used for functions and acoustics are alot better than you would expect. Lots of parking too.
