Museum of Transport and Technology

I had a superb time visiting this museum. Lots of displays on so many different topics. Very reasonable admission charge includes free trolley to their second location, which is a fun experience by itself. I was particularly impressed with the old, yet operating, huge stationary steam engines. Rare to see live steam engines these days. The operating telephone switching racks were fascinating, with the complex relay mechanisms clicking away. Also, I enjoyed the old radios, TVs, and computer equipment. (But ones that I've used shouldn't already be displayed in museums!) Of particular interest to other Geeks like me is the analog computer built from Erector set parts. I had heard of them, but what fun to actually see one.

Enjoyably but somehow not quite the experience of 30 odd years ago. It seemed to me to be pretty much geared up as a marketing experience for children rather than a museum. Still, having said that, I was there with my children and their children and it was a good day out. They all enjoyed the ride on the tram to the Aviation section and that was excellent in every way. So, perhaps I should up my rating to 4 stars! Thank you.

Great place to take the kids especially when they host exhibitions. The recent one we went to was on STEM(Science, technology, Engineering and Maths). With the way technology is taking over this was really good to see. It's always good to get the ticket to include the tram ride too. Can stop at the military Museum too.

Cool place to spend around 3 hours. It's gonna be a great fun for kids. I myself and my friend enjoyed a lot as well! Recommend!

Definitely need more than a few hours here. Hard to glimpse things to see where to head to make the most of the time we had so missed some cool stuff. Affordable entry and good cafe with reasonable pricing so would definitly go again when in Auckland.
