I'm not sure what words to use to describe our dining experience. We were there on the Thursday before the marathon, four of us. We trusted the chef 5 courses with matching wines. It was so good I told the chef before I left that I will measure all other dining out meals by that one. I have dined at elephant hill, craggy range and Pegasus bay this year twice at each venue. I have to be fair and say each of these were outstanding in every respect. However Amisfield is several notches above these. It's hard to believe they could be better but they are. We will fly down again in March just to dine again at Amisfield. Hows that for not knowing what words to describe our dining experience it was that good.

Very unimpressed when I arrived here after he ring good things because the staff were quite rude and arrogant. We asked if we could do a tasting and the lady in the cellar door responded with a lecture on how you can't order a glass of wine in the cellar and would need to go to the restaurant - duh! We obviously wanted to do that but decided not to following a second staff member that was also very rude. There are so many other wineries staffed by friendly and down to earth people.

Superb! We trusted the chef and boy did he deliver. Each dish and wine pairing engaged all the senses and very much pleased the palate. Every restaurant should have a forager on board, we loved discovering new edible flora we hadn't tried before. The wait staff displayed the perfect balance of friendly professionalism - lunching here was the perfect end to our South Island visit. We can't wait to come back!

Rude, arrogant maitre d' made us feel very unwelcome. Not the normal pleasant wine experience I've become accustomed to in New Zealand. Having completed a reasonable $10 tasting we wondered through to the restaurant and asked for a table to have a glass of wine and snacks (platter). The maitre d' repeatedly looked us up and down with contempt and told us they don't sell snacks, that they were having a function, but that we were welcome to have a drink (his face told a completely different story). He then pointed us to the closest, least appealing table. So we left and found a winery with a far nicer atmosphere - Carrick at Bannockburn. Quite unpleasant.

We took my mother in law to a few wineries so she could taste and after a very nice experience in some others we got in Amisfield, on the bar there was no chairs , if u want to do just a tasting they make you feel like u are wasting there time. They serve all the wines in the same glass because apparently you dont worth the washing and polishing for many glasses. To sum up it was a very unconfortable experience standing all of us in front of the bar with a bar tender that just spoke to ask if we were buying a bottle. A shame!
